Post-Hobby Lobby, Religious Orgs Want Exemption From LGBT Hiring Order
DYLAN SCOTT – JULY 2, 2014

"The day after the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby ruling, a group of religious leaders sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking that he exempt them from a forthcoming executive order that would prohibit federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT people.

The letter, first reported by The Atlantic, was sent on Tuesday by 14 representatives, including the president of Gordon College, an Erie County, Pa., executive and the national faith vote director for Obama for America 2012, of the faith community."

I hope that someone people will actually listen to (,not me then,) publicly and vocally makes the point that anyone seeking this action is unarguably prejudiced.

If this was a group trying to get an exemption from laws protecting equality between ethnicity or traditional gender people would call them on it :(
I refuse to live in fear! Come hell or high water I will not back down! I will live my life!
But you have no life.
Ha. Even that won't stop me.

I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.

What religious organizations need to realize, is they dont have any right to cultural dominance.

They complain about how societal pillars are being destroyed etc, but you can damn well bet the same thing was said about slavery. Society can and will change as the culture adapts, its a fact of nature. Unless said religion is a state religion, the only say they get in change is as much say as each individual person gets. They dont get any more say than that. Yes they contribute, but only as much as everyone else can. If you are to exist in a country you have to either follow their code of law or suffer the consequences of disobeying that law regardless of if you agree with the law or not. Nobody gets a legal exemption from stuff they disagree with, it doesn't work that way. I disagree with war, but i dont get to opt out of my tax money going towards funding it.

Your gender is against my sincerely held religious beliefs!

Your religion is against my sincerely held gender beliefs!!

Can we discriminate against hiring Christians?  Because, I do see that this could eventually happen.  Some people say it is already happening.  For example, those two guys who lost their TV show because of what they said about homosexuals.  The trend is for acceptance of GLBT, although I think the gays will get full acceptance long before TG/TS do.  So when society eventually swings the pendulum, which it will, will people be discriminating against the religious?  And, will the religious people defend the "constitutional right" to discriminate against religion when their religion is in the minority?

Religious people should be very careful what they argue for.  It's easy to advocate discrimination against a minority when you are in the majority.  Fundamentalist religion is going the way of the dodo bird in this country.  There are more atheists, rationalists, and a good number of religious people are now on the more moderate and mellow flavors of religion rather than the traditional fire and brimstone type religion.  If you are allowed to discriminate against other people based on your beliefs, then they are also able to discriminate against you based on their beliefs.  Equality under the law, and all of that.  There's a good chance that religious moderates and/or atheism will become the dominant belief systems for the next century or two.
