The question is primarily US specific but not excluding your country if you have info.

If WWIII breaks loose, can being transgendered literally save your hide from being drafted?

What about young Female to Male transexuals? Should they serve?

I would expect WW III to be over in less than a week with very few people left standing, doubt there'd be much opportunities for drafting people, trans or otherwise.

We are considered a 4F, completely unsuitable for military service.  GID is considered a major mental illness in the military.  The selective service also excludes women from having to register so the FTM crowd is safe until they change their gender marker.
When the CG kicked me out they gave me a reenlistment code of 4, which means I can not get any govt job, or ever be brought back into the military.  It would take an act of the President to do that.
When my command got the idea that I was trans, they pressed some BS assault and battery charge on me for giving one of my nonrates a "wet willy". Its how the military operates, if you are considered undesirable they will move heaven and earth to get rid of you.

On that note you still do have to sign up for the selective service, as a bio male you can face a large amount of prejiduce against you for not doing it, even if you are unsuitable for service.

There is talk about letting GD men and women serve.

Not sure if it will ever pass but there is talk.

I agree WWIII will be over in short order, to many with fingers on the buttons.

In canada it is different. Bonk issues are what i read about. Pre srs but post hrt they can not place you in either male or female bonks. So these people were paid srs asap and placed according to there new gender.

That's what I think too.

Interesting question.  It makes me wonder about prison.  Like if a trans person got in trouble for whatever reason, and they get sent to jail.....what then?  Will they pay for medications?  Or force you to stop?   Will they send you to the jail according to your birth gender?

I think anyone would be drafted if there was an immediate threat directly attacking the country.

Oh goody, I get to dig out my Selective Service spiel from my days as a Financial Aid Advisor at a private college:

There has not been a draft since the Vietnam War, and there will very likely never be another one. The Department of Defense has discovered that an all volunteer force is far more effective and efficient than a conscription force is. If your official identification says that you are a male and you are between the ages of 18 and 26 you are required to register. If you fail to register you are ineligible for any federal financial aid and many other federal programs. In the highly unlikely event there is ever a draft, it is likely that you would not be eligible for service. Therefore it is in your best interest to register.

Plus, you know, what Grace said.

I take it you haven't been watching Orange is the New Black which is based on a true story.

I don't know how long does it take a few thousand war heads to travel across the ocean. It could be like that film On The Beach where last left alive after nuclear war lived in Australia Excellent film by the way.

Considering Trans* people can't serve in the military in the US, nope.  If WWIII broke out before that gets overturned to allow Trans* men and women to serve, like any time soon, and there was a draft, we'd still be excluded from service.

This is something I think about quite a bit actually because in the UK trans people can serve in the military. I was looking into doing it at one point so that's how I know and I actually came across some posts on a forum from people who were trans and currently serving.

....I guess whether or not you had a gender recognition certificate would have a lot to do with it.

When you go to prison as a pre-op trans woman, they either put you in administrative segregation (aka the hole) or in PC (prote ctive custody) where all the pedophiles and snitches are. I guess you could fight it and be placed in general pop, if they thought it would be okay. it would depend on how you look. Hormones are stopped in PA. Not sure about anywhere else. They ween you off them fast. That is if you're lucky enough to be weened off them. Once the hormones wear off and you look more male, it's general population.

If you're small and passable, you can get a man to "take care of you." if not, get ready to fight. The trans women I knew in prison could all scrap. I couldn't. I was 18. BTW, my crime was a misdemeanor drug offense, three of them. the cop had a vendaeeta for not snitching, and I got sent up for two years. I wasn't on hormones and in there was the first place I heard of them since everyone and the brother wanted me on them. I'm IS however and had boobs, so it was not a pleasant experience. I need some serious therapy.

My nickname was Mal (as in Mallory) and one guy called me cupcake and told me how I remnded him and looked so much like his wife. Good times.

In Australia possibly. We do have Lieutenant Colonel (pronounced Lef tenant by speakers of the Queen's language),  LTCOL Cate McGregor AM. While her duty in the Australian Defense Force is as the speech writer for the Chief of the Army,  precedent has been set so who knows.

For me no. As an epileptic I don't think I would pass a complete physical.

Realistically well with the amount of countries with nuclear weapons today.  Depending on which two countries started the conflict and why would anyone be left to govern, let alone call a draft

Don't worry about it. I think WW3 would be over before one can say W (of What happened). Too many nukes. The best place to be in a nuclear attack is at ground zero where we are vaporized before the sign of being in pain reaches our brain. One doesn't then have to worry about dying a painful death from radiation poisoning.

However if they do not use nukes but conventional weapons instead, which might take place if we get involved with Russia over the plane being shot down in Ukraine. Then it could be a big possibility we could be drafted especially if we are in stealth mode.

As we all over the world are government property the can do whatever the want with you !I agree that if the start playing with nukes it end soon else the do need slaves to clean up battle fields of the dead .Remove mines .Al jobs that can get you a disease or killed are good for the (in there eyes) misfits.

My sister was in Jail for a stint a while back (A bad traffic accident leading to a bull->-bleeped-<- "Lets make an example of you" manslaughter charge :( )

While she was there this story happened in her prison: http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/local/fife/scottish-prison-service-providing-cushy-life-for-sex-swap-killer-paris-green-family-claim-1.272799

In short, in Scotland being trans in prison ain't as bas as you might think...unless you go around flaunting it and having sex with the cis female inmates 0.0

It's quite the moral conflict, and I often wonder what prison I would prefer to go to if I ever ended up in a similar situation :S

Male prison: You are more likely to have some trouble...but find some big gents who are willing to "take care" of you and you're probably sorted

Female Prison: From what my sister said, the trans person in question was treated like a freak by just about each and every member of the prison...aside from when somebody wanted some sex.

-shudder-

I can't imagine either are a particularly nice experience >.>

I will never allow my 14yr old son to even register . . . unless it was required of women as well. Totally unfair ya can take yer "Federal benefits" and STUFF IT!

In Israel EVERYONE serves (including ultra-Orthodox Jewish men as of Mar 12, 2014):
Quote from: Wikipediathe period of service for men was 30 months and for women 18 months (although in accordance with a temporary order from January 10, 1968, six additional months were added to the mandatory service.) The draft requirement applies to any citizen or permanent resident who has reached the age of 18,

That said with the unlimited DARPA funding and the increasing rise of The Machines a.k.a. "Terminator" it is highly unlikely the U.S. would ever reinstate a draft as the current Obama in charge has slowly been decreasing the number of enlisted personal. The days of forced 'extra tours', a backhanded form of draft, is over.

As long as this U.S. economy remains in the dumps you'll get plenty of fools who'll join voluntarily (and, of course, that includes women)
"But it's no use now," thought poor Alice, "to pretend be two people!
"Why, there's hardly enough of me left to make one respectable person!"

If WWIII breaks out and we're not allowed to fight, we should form our own renegade band of trans soldiers and fight anyway.  Earn some respect, help win the war, and they'll make a movie about our heroic (heroine-oic?) story in fifty years.
