I used to live in that state. When I moved to Alabama, I thought it would be worse in the way minorities were treated. To my surprise at least in this area its actually better than Ohio.

Ohio is a real mixed bag.  Some places are much less progressive than others.  My family is from the southern part... (And yes, I'm pretty sure my family tree actually forks a bit.)

It's also one of only 3 states that will not allow you to amend your birth certificate for any reason.  I'm glad I wasn't born there like my brother and a couple of my trans-sisters (new Jill-ism!) were.  So glad my parents temorarily moved to NM in 1969!

Ohio needs a reality check.

The one nice thing about ohio is that because its a swing state, your presidental vote actually matters. Its not like its here in Alabama where you either vote republican like everyone else or your vote gets tossed.

The problem here in ohio is that a majority of the counties are republican but the majority of the people live in a few counties. So for state issues the majority of the people are in the minority as far as representatives.  So while my vote for presidents gets counted my vote for state house does not help much. Like Jill said the northern counties and the southern counties mainly vote democrat the middle of the state vote republican. Which is why Rove had a melt down in the last election which I thought was very funny.

This is sad to see.  Due to no fault of my own I was born in Ohio.  I do not really know where I will go with transition as I find my self more Androgyne - but this is still a slap in the face.

Minoriites of any sort seem to get the short end of the stick in Ohio.  Back in 2009 I found it logistically more appealing to drive accross Ohio to get south and west.  Just by chance I ran my old Buick on the trip rather than my Volkswagen.  Over half of the cars I saw pulled over by the Highway Patrol were Volkswagens - less than one in twenty cars on the road is a VW.  Aargh!  I got out of there as fast I could legally go and went to Kentucky for the night.  At a rest area just inside Kentucky a Muslim family was arranging for prayer and the father had a compass figuring out which way to face.  The thought that went through my mind was if they had stopped in Ohio instead they would have had a nasty interaction with Law Enforcement.  Yes, I prefer to live in America with all sorts of people rather than in the Dark Ages.

Actually, anywhere you live that is not a swing state and you are not part of the majority your vote is effectively tossed.  I live in Pennsylvania and not in Philadelphia - so I have this feeling my vote does not count regardless of the issue.

At least in Ohio my vote had a chance. In Alabama, vote my never has a chance.
