I'm new... Help!

Hi everybody I'm new to the site and I am having some issues.  I am currently having to run through a portal site because I am on a government sponsored ISP that blocks susans.  I believe this is the source of my issues but I can't figure out a way around them.  I can't get any of the chat rooms to load, and I got a message saying I can't "just view any profile."  Is there privacy settings or something allowing only friends to view profiles?   I've tried redownloading Java but that didn't help and I can't download mIRC because it's blocked too and I have to try to download it through the portal and I get an error message saying something about checking my proxy settings even though they are set to automatic.  It's a lil frustrating but I'm not giving up that easily lol.  Any net savvy people out there know what I should do?  Any help would be appreciated.

I had some issues getting on chat as well, with Java. Someone suggested that I try MIRC because of a Java issue. Not sure if that's been resolved yet or not.

And you can't access profiles till you have 15 posts, Ashley's right there. You also can't use your own pic as an avatar till the magic 15.

So I wouldn't be your tech-savvy answerer, but perhaps someone knows?

Dennis and Ashley Michelle; thanks for posting the info on post numbers to get past being a visitor. I always wondered how that worked.  I used to chat alot 10 yrs ago but my wife got sick and didn't get back on the board much.
