French actor Michel Serrault, whose performance as a ->-bleeped-<- in the film and screen versions of "La cage aux folles" (The Birdcage) catapulted him to international stardom, has died, his priest said Monday. He was 79.

Yes it's quite sad, he was a very good and respected actor and of course his acting in 'la cage aux folles' forms an important part of recent queer history.
