I see everywhere stated that trans women should expect on average, with HRT,  a maximum bra size A but here many girls say they have larger than that. So is this claim really true?

I think the general rule of thumb in prediction is to look at close female relatives and subtract one XD

Ofcourse this is in no way an iron clad rule, but if you have a sister with c-cup breasts I would put my money on probably reaching a b-cups.

There are going to be a lot of external factors though such as chest size before HRT and diet.
I refuse to live in fear! Come hell or high water I will not back down! I will live my life!
But you have no life.
Ha. Even that won't stop me.

I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.

It depends on genetics, timing and luck, really. What I've read more often is that you should expect to be about one cup size short of what you'd be had you gone through normal female puberty. So looking at your closer family might be an indication. Then again, these things vary so much from person to person that it's pretty much impossible to predict.

I've reached full A cup in just three months of hormones, so I'm expecting they'll continue on for a while still.

I have heard this too, but I never really knew for sure which one to believe in. I have seen A stated as the average bra size for the transwoman, which I think is small. I don't think I will have big breasts, but I am okay. :P I don't know my mother and sister's sizes, but my mom's are probably average and my sis' a little smaller. So IDK. It's not very important to me, I just want to have enough breasts so I look okay xD since it helps passing.

I think both that and the "one cup size smaller" are a myth. I've seen dozens and dozens of women reporting that they expected one cup size smaller but are "the exception," and at the point where there's more exceptions than people who fit the rule, well. :)

I bet you could put up a poll asking people to report their current size; my general impression is that the majority of women (who've been on HRT for a few years) here have exceeded an A cup. Cis girls can take up to 10 years to get their full growth, mind you, so it's also a question of being patient.

There's also the fact that cup size varies by band size - so a 42A has the same approximate cup volume (=roughly the same actual breast size) as 40B, 38C, 36D, and 34DD. It's just that on a bigger chest or broader rib cage, breasts will *look* smaller. A trans woman whose mother is 36C, for example, might be around the same REAL breast size if she's 38B or even 40A.

(I'm officially fitted at 38DD, favorite bra is 42DDD and fits. 4.5 years on hormones.)

I had not much natural luck so had to pay for mine.

For my frame i went with a full C cup.

Depending on the type of bra i buy it could also be a D.

No one has every unearthed any type of scientific study that validates the "one size smaller" statement.

Genetics supposedly have something to do with it, but all the women in my family went larger than D but I'm barely an A.

However there is a foolproof method to tell how large your breasts will be on HRT:

1. Go on HRT for a few years.
2. Look down.

That's how most of us figured it out.

Suzi, I love ya. :) It took you about a dozen words to sum up what I was trying to say in paragraphs!

My mother's entire family is off the scale, like 90% of their body weight is breast. My sister is a small B and i'm a heavy D so your mileage will most definitely vary. Good luck! ^-^

I also heared something similar from my endo and in my personal oppinion it is said to lower the exspectation/get them to a realistic level. A have (cis-)female friends with almost nothing to AA, some with D/DD and a lot in between. The most found consense seems that it depends on luck and genetics. So lets just cross our fingers and lets be happy with what we will get :) I am currently sub-A, but there are some good push-ups which do wonders.

At 7 3/4 months of HRT (not that I'm counting) I'm just about a C cup now. My HRT doctor who has many transgender patients was delightfully surprised last month when I saw her for my checkup. She said most transwomen who start HRT after 40 don't get much more than a B cup. I don't have any genetically related sisters to compare with. On my father's side all the women were DD or larger. (My Grandmother on my father's side had a F size cup). However the women on my mother's side were all B or C cups. My mother barely had a C cup, but had breast augmentation when she was 25. She had a bad experience with silicon implants where they had bursted and was part of that lawsuit in the early 1990's. She never really got anything out of it, but she did get Saline implants later on.

I do know that since switching to injections last month, I've noticed more of a rapid growth in them. My wife has also noticed and is liking what she sees :)

I think a lot of depends on the size of your ribcage more than any other factor. I have a 30.5 inch band, so even if I was a B cup, I'd still still look perky. As it is, I'm a 32D and they don't seem stop growing, while my ribcage continues to shrink. Proper AAs and suppression of T, not only free and total, but also of it's ugly cousin DHT, is essential. You can tell when the dose is right when your facial hair growth slows dramatically. I know I didn't take AAs, only E and P, for almost three months and my feminization grinded to halt and my boobs shrank (I think). Now, after only two weeks of AAs, I have lost 8 lbs. and my boobs are bigger than ever and are "doing" something again. They haven't hurt in awhile, but the areola is harder or something and sticks out more. Maybe I'm entering that whole mound on a mound stage or whatever.

But I also had boobs before transition, not man boobs, actual boobs, breast tissue and all. So, that prolly plays a major factor in my boobage. But I'd go to a 32B to have a more pretty face, one that isn't so andro. It's andro in a femmey, cute way, but still andro. I'd rather be prettyprettypretty.

I wouldn't count on the whole one cup size smaller, age, or anything. It's all genetics and luck. And in the end of you'e not happy save the $3K and get BA. Heck, I want BA cause even though I'm busty, I have to use duct tape if I want dramatic cleavage, which I do when I wants to turn my BF on lol

I never understood the difference between men and women's ribcages :O are men's more prominient? I don't know if my ribcage is masculine or feminine, but it's not very prominient.

Sydney, that's so awesome! So I guess it really depends :)

Jenna and Suzi, I know, I just wanted to see if there was any validity in this claim or if it was scientifical at all.

And yeah, I'm definitely keeping my expectations low, 'cause the women in family have kinda small boobs, so I have no real option ahah

Joanna, that's sweet. I didn't know ribcage could shrink, but I have read that it's the ribcage that makes a woman's boobies look smaller or larger. And because we transwomen have larger ribcages, a B cup on us would look smaller than on a genetic woman's. Oh, sometimes I wish I had breasts already, but it would probably cause me problems as I still present as male, so I wonder if that was difficult to you because of the way others dealed with it! Unless you never passed as male, which would be good, I think!?

*Btw Joanna, if that's you in profile picture, you look prettyprettypretty :) and though it's in profile, you totally look like a girl, would have never guessed*

Thanks for the input, girls :)

Men and other testosterone-affected people *tend* to have larger bone structures and therefore larger rib cages, but as with everything else, it varies. I'm only about an inch bigger than my wife (and have smaller wrists, so I'm probably smaller-boned overall than she is), and there are plenty of other trans women who are small-framed. Joanna, for example, is tiny with a 32 band size. :) And a 32D generally looks bigger than a 36B, even though both women have roughly the same amount of breast size.

Also, the actual bones of the rib cage won't shrink, but losing some weight and muscle there can still shrink the band size - meaning fat redistribution and HRT diminishing chest muscles will help a bit for a lot of women. I went from 41" around my chest to 39" on HRT (yet since bras aren't consistent about sizing even though they pretend it's in inches, argh, that means my band is anywhere from 38 to 42).

7 months in on my hrt and I'm a 32B. I too am tiny up top as well. I never thought I'd reach a B cup at 7 months though. I have no family on either side left to compare to. I only know my biological Mom was a 34B.

I am 6 months in, and I am wearing a 38C, I am not sure how big I am going to end up, but I am sure it will be above an A. I will probably have more growth still, usually it takes about 2 years to get to full size. I think my results have been a bit above average, but I don't think the results have been that much above average.

I do not have much on my chest and it pisses me off. The only plastic surgery I wanna do is breast enlargement because my breast is simply only existent if I push it to the maximum, here you can see my most common example (A cup btw).

I am really unsatisfied with my breast but thats the only spot I really hate about myself. But I guess that comes from the lack of fat that I have to build up breast tissue.
These results are after 2 1/2 years of HRT but I think your results might be a lot better if you are not too skinny as me.

My mom was an A cup but both of my grandmothers were much larger. AND I am 51 years old so who knows what the boob fairy will bring?

After 9 months on a transitioning dose of HRT + 6 months of progesterone I am a very solid A heading into B territory. So far, so good  :)

I'm just about the same time on hrt and my bewbs are like yours, also I'm pretty skinny still, been trying to gain weight. When I started hrt I was at about 120 lbs now I'm at about 144. They're pretty full but pretty spaced apart. Idk if I'll end up getting breast aug, I might but I know I'm still growing soo I guess after I get srs I'll have a better idea.
