I use to let them grow long. but then realized the new fashion was short , so I do short , far more convenient .

I like the longer look and I try to keep them about 1/4 to 3/8 inch past the fingertip - I can proudly state that 7 of the 10 are my actual nails - the other 3 are thanks to my local nail salon - hard to keep them intact going out sailing 3 or 4 times a week

I would love to have long nails but unfortunately I play the guitar and have to keep them short. When I do want them long any store has the fakes that I can glue on for a day or two.

I let them grow long , I like them this way , quite a lot , especially because my hands are huge and manly , so the nails are maybe the only feminine features .
They don't really stay in my way , sometimes one of them may break because of some housewife activities that fill my time , but it is ok , they grow back quickly .
How long  ?  I don't know , I would say ' normally long ' for a woman , if that says everything . I don't have an obsession to get them as long as I can , just to look pretty and feminine . Maybe 1/4 of an inch over the fingertip .   ???

  P.S.
Sometimes I tend to cut the ring finger nail a bit shorter to give the impression of female digit ratio  :)  ( yes , I am obsessed and weird )

I sort of go by how far the nails stick out from the nail bed (where they change color on the finger) and 1/4 inch from there seems OK.  Any longer and they get in the way for most anyting I try to do.  However, this is still longer than most of the cis-women I know.  Does this make me out of style?

Erin - we have all been inside our own heads for so long we are all out of whack with society styles - I have made a firm pledge to do what satisfies me and not worry about what styles other people wear

Out of style? What's that :-) . Personally I let them grow like 6mm (so also like quarter an inch) from the part where they change color. I have fairly hard fingernails so they remain quite stable but it does complicate the "maintenance" a bit. Still I usually trim them to like 3mm when they start to get in the way a bit too much.

I was a life-long nail-biter, so this was one unforeseen benefit of my transition: no more nail-biting!  I like them long.  They're almost a quarter inch now, but that's a bit too long for me.  I'll probably trim them in the next few days.

I like mine short but straight, I'm not sure if that's strange or not XD

I do let them grow to about a halve an inch once in a while, but I can't seem to stop breaking them

I've gotten a gel manicure twice now this year. Both times I loved my nails but the second time they were a bit too long so trimmed them after a week. There still longer than what I can grow but the problem with gels is that you either have to have them filled or let them grow out. I have never tried the acrylic and never will, their not good for your real nails.

After these grow out I'm going back to nice short trim ones. There is a lot of maintenance involved with keeping them clean and looking good after about 3 weeks. I even had to by a small scrub brush to keep them clean, one reason you will never see any health workers with long nails.

I'd like mine trimmed neat and rounded off. If they are too long I find it impossible to type on a keyboard. Otherwise buffed down and some polish on them would be nice too.

Quarter inch with tapered rounded tips. It really helps feminize your hands and peeves me when I break them also. Been using a nail hardener you wipe on every three days or so. Seems to work OK.

An inch and a quarter long and I love them. It did take a while to learn not to poke my eyes out when putting in contact lenses though. I would not shorten them for anything as they are my favorite feature I think.  :)

I like to grow them as long as possible, but I end up cutting them back every time I play the guitar.  You chip the polish and maybe the nail itself as well as gouging up your fingerboard.  I like to be nice to my pretty guitar collection as well as my nails, but long nails = no guitar time for me.

I let them grow until they break, then re-file them.  They're always at least a 1/4 inch beyond the end of my finger
