First that is the old term. It is now Gender Dysphoria and is no longer listed as a mental illness. Second, with Medicare lifting the trans exclusion some care is covered as the Government programs mostly follow Medicare decisions. You might check again. Medicare is now covering a lot of my trans health care cost's even SRS. Private insurance companies will now have to lift exclusions as well or face discrimination lawsuits every hour. The Federal Governments ruling was clear to everyone. To exclude trans care IS discrimination, period. :)
My bad  :-\ That is a term I have heard for a while, didn't realize it meant mental illness. I will make sure to use the correct terminology in the future!

I am hoping private insurance companies do come to their senses, and soon...

2015 is just over 4 months away so why get hung up on finding a "gender therapist and insurance.  The real question is who are you and how/where do you need to be one year/ two years/ six months from now.

The next question(s) is how do you pan to get there.   Your other option is to spend precious time and money dissecting what should be intuitively obvious to you.  Do you really need somebody else to tell you who you are?

What I need is some one to help me sort things out and get me on the path to where i have needed to be for most of my life. No matter how obvious it is to me the fear is that who ever i talk to will tell me I'm wrong and try and tell me who I should be.

Any professional therapist is not there to tell you if you are right or wrong.

They are there to help you work on the tools you need to move forward on who you are not who they want you to be.

Its always the fear of the un known. But it is a fear more of accepting ones own truths.

So look for a Gender specific Therapist is the best advice i can give to help.

Also there are ones that treat online via web or skype.

I have found a therapist who is near by-ish that psychology today says does trans issues but it seems like she just clicked all the boxes when she made the profile because I don't think there is any thing it says she doesn't cover. there is also the fact she states in her blerb she like dealing with families and adoption issues. It also states she has only been in practice for 2 years. so I'm not sure.

You could e-mail her and ask a few questions. One would be if she has experience with Trans* issues and if not does she know of a therapist who is good and does. Also, ask if she will work with a sliding scale form of payment.

Yeah therapy helps but it is a bit scary at first.  You need to put your big girl pants on and just do it.  You may not find the right therapist straight away but thats the same with anything. I was shaking like a leaf the first time and asking myself all the stupid questions can you do this, do i really want to do this.  can I actually say to someone that I am transgendered?  I was glad I did it though because it taught me that the world will not cave in around me if I talk about it and that there are people out there who will tell you that it is ok to be transgendered and dress appropriately. I am sure that it will help as your family is still getting used, or not, to the fact that you are trans.  It won't get better until you take the decision to go for it and push through the anxiety and fear.  after that you will surprise yourself with what can happen.  Things will get better and you will feel better when you become the person you are and not what others want you to be.  All my best wishes.
