Yet another Yeson VFS thread. Just to gather my updates at one place

Hello everyone,

My updates has mostly been scattered among different posts on the forum, so I've decided to put them all into one post. I've just reached my 5 weeks mark today since the VFS with Dr. Kim at Yeson Voice Center.

I can't appreciate enough the contributors here like JennyGirl, Gigi_J and SarahR, whom are the reason for me choosing Yeson.

I will be posting to this thread in the future to keep you girls up to date on the healing process.

Your latest update is pretty fantastic. Your voice sounds more clear and consistent, and the pitch is definitely higher. You actually remind me a lot of Maja, who, along with Jenny and others, were the inspiration to get it done myself. Congratulations on your progress. Within the next 2-4 months you'll really notice the changes in softness, power in your voice, and more consistent pitch.

I had a post chink that caused me to use twice as much air as normal to produce sound, and I think that might be the reason for it sounding clearer

It really does sound better - I think the pitch is similar to the pre op trained voice, but if it comes out just like that, it is already an improvement. I tried to download it to put it in praat but it seems not to be possible in soundcloud. I noticed that a lot of the deeper undertones seem to be gone, so it sounds softer and clearer and more feminine. In part this may be due to the botox and you speaking softly and with a low volume for yow - so I guess after the botox is gone, one can really do the comparison properly, but it seems good already IMO. You started off rather high I think - did you need the 1/3 suture anyways?

Yep I got the 1/3 suture. Pre-op I was around 160 - 178 without really pushing it. I'm really glad the "rough" edges and deper tones are gone. It does sound much more clearer. That is in fact what everybody tells me, that my voice sound much more clear compared to before.

It's going to be really exciting to see where this brings me when the Botox finally wears out.

Ok, but 160-180 Hz was you doing deliberate chanes or was that your natural voice ("male voice") - if so, I would be amazed that they give a 1/3 suture as this is already gender neutral. Increasing it by 75 Hz would push it in the 230+ Hz range which would be a bit much maybe?
The rough edges gone and sounding more clear - thats perfect. People would then not even notice much about a VFS post op, but rather you could tell them you had some nodules removed or something. This is basically what I would probably want to say
But lets see how much Botox does for that - interestingly for some Botox seems to make them hoarse, for others it makes them sound soft and more clean...

When I spoke normally I would be around 170ish.
The problem is that I've been doing this for 13 years, and I don't even know how to get really down there anymore, but with some effort I was able to drop down to about 132. I could really hear it rumble in my chest when I did that.

230, Give it.. I would sound like a squeaky toy and would to good as a Japanese pop star in the Manga genre :p Just kidding, I would appreciate 210 - 220hz

Interesting. So you had 170 Hz but still had a male range vocal chord length?

I ask, because I remember that Amy had shorter chords and had only 2 stitches and one other patient of Yesons was told that the voice is already in a female range and chord length is as well, so she should not get VFS.

Yes - after 13 years (15 with me) some things just have permanently changed. I can still relax my voice into a 110 Hz range but I already notice it takes effort as well and it harms the voice a lot. It must have been my original pitch I believe. Regular average speaking now is more like 150 Hz without effort and 170 or so with some effort. So I guess the 75Hz they add count from your no-longer-available pre transition pitch which is not 170 Hz then - if you are going to be at 210 Hz, the original woud have been around the 132 you mention, which is reasonable. Could you speak at tha 132 Hz range or was it just the low end of your voice when making a sound? I can go as low as 85 Hz with that, but cannot speak there. 110 is about the lowest i can speak.

Weeell, u sent these clips to me in private (I'm so special ;p) but just wanted to reiterate here in your thread that...think u sound great!!

Definitely more clarity in the post-op recording and the ugly lower very bass tones (that we all suffered from to a greater or lesser extent) are all gone...keep up the good woooork!!

tyty Tried to pull it down today, and 130hz was the absolute lowest I could do. It's all in reverse now :p You have to concentrate to get it down, and it goes up effortlessly

Sounds perfect

I also noticed in comparison to the pre op trained voice, the pitch increase is not massive, but there are undertones that are gone. Of course the lack of them makes the voice a bit thinner, but maybe you can find more feminine anf higher pitched resonance to replace them. But hten a gain, a lot of women have less of a timbre in their voices, its not unusual at all.
