on monday I smashed my finger at work. to be honest, right when it happened I thought I broke my finger but then I decided I was "fine". I don't like going to the doctor. I always downplay things and I didn't want the hassle and possible trouble that comes from a job injury. I've been toughing it out. by today the whole freaking finger was discolored and swollen and the bruising and swelling was in my hand. my coworkers talked me into reporting it and going to the doctor.

so, i went to the little clinic in town. I've been there before as a female, under my birth name. now I'm hear through work, as male under my new name. when i got to the window, i went to the window and checked in. they asked if I'd been seen before. I said yes but that I'd changed my name. she asked for my birth date and pulled up my file. And that was it.  It was all christopher this and that. You never know in this small town how things will go, but my transition was a non-issue and I got treated with complete respect. if you've never had an on the job injury you may not know how much paperwork you have to fill out. it's insane. but it was really nice to check the "male" box on the forms.

turns out my first impression was right. I did break the finger. And I guess I broke it in a bad spot because tomorrow I have to go see a hand specialist. blah. Never had any hand injuries in my life and now I've had 2 in 2014. wth? anyway. I'm going to another place I've been before. So we will see how it goes being male and christopher tomorrow. And hopefully the doctor's appointment will go ok too :P fortunately it's my pinky finger that got smashed so i can still function pretty well.

and then friday I see my endo doctor. she's going to check my blood levels to make sure my T is at male levels consistently. my voice is changing like crazy and I'm seeing other changes so I have to think it's pretty good. I'll find out. I am also going to ask her about top surgeon recommendations. she specializes in trans patients so I'm sure she will have some info. my goal is to have the surgery next february/march. the awesome news is my insurance will cover it if I jump through all the right hoops.

did I mention I don't like going to the doctor. heh!!! well at least I knew my endo is super cool.

Sorry about your finger bro :( Hopefully it'll heal up soon enough. Other than that, the rest of the stuff is pretty much good news all around! (other than doc visits, but I get you on that one. I've got some medical issues myself and I have to see a lot of different specialists quite frequently. It's a hassle :/ ) I'm also wondering if I can somehow get top surgery covered, but if not it's $6500 out of my pocket or waiting on the list of good ol' CAM-efffing-H.
Are you in the states? Healthcare is different there so I'm just trying to gauge what it's really like for you financially. I can't even beging to imagine.

well the cool part of the doctor visit today is that i totally got treated as male. that was great. the crappy part is that the way break is in my finger is, is not s great. so i have this big stupid splint on. grrrrr it's just a freaking pinky finger. he did say that if i mess this up i will end up with pins in my finger so i guess i'll wear the stupid splint. anyway, enough about that.

i'm in the states. And i;m very lucky because most people don't have insurance for top surgery. i do, but i have to follow all there rules. i hope my endo will have good advice tomorrow

Look after it. I broke my fifth metacarpal (bone in the hand connected to the pinky finger ) and I'm still struggling with it now.

oh wow. that sucks. how long ago did you do that?

seeing my endo today was great. she only works with trans clients and does a lot of gp stuff. she gave me the names of two local top surgeons who her clients have had good experiemces with!!!!! i also got my letter to change marker.

Ouch! I hope your finger gets better and you won't need more work done on it. Breaking bones always sucks! Also congrats on getting the marker change :)
