Ideas would be appreciated.  I have told my parents that I wanted to start E to feel more at ease for time being I am just on Sperolactone   I went to a doctor who uses informed consent model after trying to commit suicide several times.  I have question why I was not a female on the outside for most of my life     and  they say  I should go on antidepressants if I am feeling this way all those do is make you want to sleep etc    Please help

You have to be aware, that though oestrogen is awesome and wonderful and fantastic, it can cause depression, and even exacerbate symptoms already there. So giving it to someone who is suicidal, is probably not the best idea, irrespective of the fact it would probably make them not suicidal.

I would say listen to the good doctor and go on antidepressants, and keep pushing to go on oestrogen. Its not one or the other after all, and who knows, when they realise antidepressants aren't working that great maybe they'll put you on E too :D

Also in many countries, getting a minor on HRT is actually not a simple process. In Australia for example, it requires a court hearing and such cases are generally given focus by the legal community...so it can take a while before the courts as well as doctors to get on HRT.

Maybe keep that in mind also :/

No problem I suck at spelling and grammar do to learning disability and stress  I have Ben on Sperolactone for about a month I was on t and growth hormone about 17-12 years ago do to low levels I hated the t I tried it as I was told I was a boy and deal with it unfortunately

It wasn't a comment on your Grammar :P
It's just a common thing for minors to be on spiro without E, for some reason.
Ah that does put a twist on things :P

I'm assuming you rely on your parents to provide the medication then?
So are they against you being a girl or is there something else here, like they say 'its not worth it', but why?

Is she in Australia?

The ->-bleeped-<- I went through to start HRT was just bad.
lawyers, doctors & judges just to get on blockers.
I was told, by the court that I could start HRT on my 18th b'day, I was given my hormones a week out and told that if caught taking them a day before I could be fined.

One day, while in court, we left to see 3 TV cameras following us.

Wow your court was awful :(
you don't need permission to start on your 18th birthday, also thats kinda contrary to the common law of Australia. The judge who found that must have been a tad of biggot

antidepressants seem to only work for people who've got it really bad. on anyone else, the most you can hope for is some placebo effect.
if you are in a state of mind where you can think at all, thinking together with a therapist would probably be much more effective than meds.

why do you try to commit suicide though?

it was a while ago now, half my life ago.

back then there were no trans teens, no real awareness and it was handled so bad for those few that were ready

Hi Kassie:

So you can't start HRT because..?

It's not as if your parents will notice any immediate changes.  Try it for a few months, see how it makes you feel.  For me (and many others), HRT had massive antidepressant effects, even at very low doses.

It's better than thoughts of harming yourself.

I heard this at group yesterday, idk if it applies or not but thought I would share it anyway cuz it might.

If you have other issues going on atm, like depression, anxiety, etc, going on hrt can intensify and make em worse. You didn't specifically say that you have any but maybe you do and if so, maybe that is why your parents are against you going on e at the moment?

so, not to sound rude why do your parents have control when the doctor already signed off  on it and your legally an adult.

I don't know, but its your mental health and unless your parents  are doctors how in the world would they know what's medically best.
  •

Kassie

Could not agree with you more my mom says she wants me to see a therapist but everyone I find her is not good enough for her or she drags her feet on it this is not the first time I have brought this up in the past 25+ years
