Warning if you have ever been abused or assaulted this May trigger you.

I was sitting on my patio backyard enjoying the sept sunshine, eyes closed sleeves up to get sun on my shoulders. Next door neighbor drives up with someone guy looks over at me and says loudly
Look at that dike, gonna get raped. My 11 yr old daughter was with me so I choose to ignore it so not cause a scene plus she was further away and didn't hear it. My neighbor who can be an ass or an ok guy depending on the day says  that's just a tom girl and they went inside.

This is what I live with as an angrogynous person. This is why I am scared a lot.
Peace .

I'm not androgynous but I choose to ignore a lot of nasty stuff for the sake of peace and getting along. We've got enough practice with it that I can usually communicate mostly wordlessly with my daughter when I need her to just let people be stupid, and we talk about it afterward when we get to a safe space. Some people are just awful and we have to limit our interactions with them, but there are good people who come around slowly with enough info and subtle redirection. The hardest part is managing the influence of people who are casually vicious when I'm not around.

I'm scared a lot too. Sometimes bad stuff goes down, and hearing people calmly joke about it can be triggering.
everybody's house is haunted

I feel for you DCRat. I hate my neighbors too for different reasons but I never even look at their direction let alone talk to them. What you did was good though. I am also nonbinary/androgynous.
I am male because I say so and nothing more.
I don't have to look or act like one therefore.
