I just discovered, to my great surprise, that Gender Identity Disorder is supposed to be recognized as a valid condition when applying for the Disability Tax Credit from the Canadian Federal Government.  It also appears that it can be applied retroactively to previous tax years and could be worth quite a bit of cash back.  I could sure use any help I can get to fund my transition because I've already completely stalled on saving for retirement due to the expenses and the worst is yet to come with future surgery.

Have any of you successfully applied for this tax credit?  Are there any unusual hurdles other than getting your doctor to fill in part of the application form?
