Ok,
Well, I know everyone has their opinion on Dr.'s and reasons for it.. but I am down to two.  McGinn in PA or Dr Marci Bowers.
I am leaning toward Bowers because she is in network and I can get it covered although I really liked what I found out about McGinn and the procedure.
I can go out of pocket and really with my deductible its not that much different.. or lets say it wont break my bank to go with McGinn.
Also I can get in with McGinn sooner and Bowers has 14 month wait.... hmmmmm what to do.. I want to pre schedule now so I get on the list but as u know.. the deposit is non refundable.
Any advise.. greatly appreciated..  BTW will be on BCBS and my policy wont exclude me but deductible is 6500 bucks.

Either will be perfectly fine!  My shortlist has only three Surgeons on it

Bowers, Brassard and McGinn.

Rchic, who did you go to?

I would go with McGinn, I did some research on her and she seems more steady... think Bowers had to deal with a Fistula and wasn't able to fix it when I was deciding surgeons.

I was in the same debate between them. They are both trans, very reputable and caring doctors. No matter who I got the surgery from I would be in great hands and would get great results. Ultimately geography was the deciding Factor as Mcginn is a three hour drive from me. I have my date with her on April 7th, 2015. If I were you I would choose the doctor which is most convenient for you. They are some of the top surgeons you can go to, best of luck!

McGinn is who I would prefer, but...Being closer to her is a factor for me. The results from both doctors are more than acceptable to me.

I highly recommend Dr. Tobi Meltzer.

I'm leaning heavily towards Bowers since she works with insurance and her office staff told me they try and bill as in network. McGinn will require payment up front, out of network and they give me the information I need to try and get some reimbursement from insurance so that's some 20k I need to come up with. Meltzer is very pricey, does not bill insurance and still does a two stage procedure. The cost for both stages from him is over 28k per the office staff I spoke to this week.

Have you looked at an overseas Surgeon? Or is traveling out of the question?

If Traveling is not an issue, I would like to recommend Dr Chettawut since I just had my surgery done with him 2 weeks ago.

Before surgery, after hearing most girls who have had a depth of about 4-6 inches, I immediately thought I was gonna have the type of depth especially since I'm small down there due to hormones for 14 years and my scrotum drastically shrank.

I thought my only choice was to go with it and didn't really understand what the skin graft was about and only that it was required if i didn't have enough skin down there for the surgery. At this point, I was hopeless and just chose Dr Chettawut because a few friends and acquaintAnceS i know have done their surgery with him and I have seen his work and depth was something I didn't really pay much attention to til I finally really got serious about financially getting this surgery.

Him and his team are extremely kind and very very helpful.

Anyway, after surgery and back at the hotel recovering, on the day of my vaginal packing to be removed. The nurse gently dilated me to determine my depth so she can report back to Dr. and at that moment it surprised me as she was also happy and told me to pull up the little mirror they have provided me to look at the depth once the dilator was deep to my vaginal wall. I was happy to see that Dr Chettawut did a great job in granting me a depth of 7 inches and now it's my lifelong responsibility for 2 years and beyond to maintain that depth. I was extremely content lol.

Now just 2 more weeks till I get to go back home in the U.S and so far dilating has been great.
15 years on HRT and going, started at age 16.

SRS+BA done in Bangkok, Thailand by the hands of Dr Chettawut Tulayaphanich and his team on November 1, 2014.

For sure I will consider Chettawut especially if insurance in  the U.S. does not pay for some reason.  In fact I am considering just paying for it out of pocket.
I have a consult for FFS this month .. if that goes well and I don't need much will have extra cash.. Mostly I need a little lift...and everyone says I don't need FFS so I am hopeful.
Thanks for the info...hope your travels home are smooth..!

I choose my surgeon based upon my first impression that he gave me.

I shopped around, and he felt "right". That was the most important for me personally, feeling at ease with someone that is going to change my life forever. He isn't very well known, you probably never even heard of the guy, he doesn't even have a website, still he did hundreds of girls.

I think picking a surgeon solely on what others say, or how famous the surgeon seems to be, how many surgeries he/she has done, is bad judgment to me. Every surgeon is human and is fallible. Surgery is surgery, and there is little room for error because there aren't many different techniques to create a neo vagina. If you are doing 1 surgery per month or a 100 per month doesn't say anything other than being a busy surgeon. Just like there aren't many different techniques to perform heart or hand surgery. It either works or it doesn't. Little room for error. Every surgeon has at least 12 years experience before he/she is even allowed to perform surgery, at least in my country. So these people are masters at what they do.

We live in 2014, and these kind of surgeries has come a long way, it has a history way over 80 years now. Since it is such a highly specialized surgery you would be hard pressed to find a surgeon that will botch your surgery,  unless it is in performed in a third world country alley for 100$, you will be fine with most surgeons, no matter how "experienced" or famous.

The main results lie in the hands of the patient. This means: being healthy, non-smoker, in good shape mentally and physically and following the surgeon's post-op advise.

Humorously I chose my Doctor 13 years ago.

I was so excited that the day I went full time I started researching Doctors.

Marci Bowers ended up my choice. Here I am 13 years later and that has not changed. I looked into the other Doctors and then short listed McGinn and Bowers. After some research and talking to both offices it was quickly apparent that Marci was still for me.

Deposit is out today with app and both letters.
