So I went to the doctor today for the first time. Based on stories, I thought it would be expensive and I'd have to get some tests and then go back again to get a prescription, then I thought hormones were going to be expensive, but...

One visit, told my story, ran some tests and I got my prescription filled and took my first dose just now. Less than $100 visit, and $8 for hormones for the month. Is that normal or am I lucky that this is far more affordable than I thought it would be?

On a side note, I've been extremely giddy since leaving the doctor and have no idea how I should feel. Happy? Sure, but it's not quite this ecstatic feeling. It's more like, "Yup". Does that make sense? Maybe the journey to this point has been so emotionally draining that reaching this next step is like "Finally!" I'm just content and not jumping on the bed like I thought I would. I'm not disappointed. In fact, I'm highly satisfied. Just shocked I'm not doing cartwheels.

Anyway, I just had to share. Now I get to worry about nipple sensitivity! Yay!

Just depends on your insurance plan really. I have Medicare and all of my HRT meds ("E", Spiro and "P") plus needles and syringes are only $10.36 for a ninety day supply.

Sounds like you've found a good doctor!  The visit itself wasn't too outrageous, and $8 for the meds is very reasonable indeed.

I pay about $15 per month for all three of my meds (estradiol, spiro, finasteride), all generic, and I'm finding that the medication is really rather affordable.  I have insurance, but even without insurance it's not prohibitively costly.

Yeah, I was excited too . . . then I figured out how much a new wardrobe costs and nearly fainted.  The drugs are the cheapest part of transitioning.  And those FFS touch-ups I've been dreaming of?  Forget it.

I'm not too worried about the cost of all new clothes. Taking it slow, so I can just get little by little. The only near immediate surgeries I'm worried about are laser hair removal and tracheal shave. I'm maybe able to afford the hair removal, but definitely not the tracheal shave. FFS is something I'm not even thinking about yet and I want BA but I have time before I need to consider it.
