Hi there, I'm a pre hormonal 50 year old transsexual. After 2 years therapy my gender clinic had agreed to put me on estradiol patch ( evorel) and t blocker injections. This t blocker injection is not the anti Androgen spironolactone. Don't know yet what this  t blocker be ? I'm awaiting for my clinic doctor to now contact my local gp re start date. Wondering what effects I'm I likely to achieve. I know mileage may vary but being 50 makes me wonder in already too late for dramatic changes. Already I have to rely on wigs due to receding hair line with large bald patch on rear of head – unlikely to grow back. I never thought to enquire about other medication such as dustateride or finasteride. I will ask my gp. Also what about options of a progesterone for breast growth. i dream of large breasts and aureoles but of course this may be wishful thinking at my age although large breast growth runs in family. Likely she will insist on me asking my gender clinic doctor at next appointment which will not be scheduled for at least 4 months. I am excited yet nervous at same time!

Congrats on the prescription :D
The thing with transition, is that with the exception of voice changes for FTM's age is a reaaaaaaaaaaally rubbish predictor for anything on HRT. Obviously the younger you are the better your results will be across all development, but even looking through the forums it becomes quite clear that a number of older women (50+) grow into themselves to become really quite beautiful inside and out :)

...considering that you are not overweight, and kinda pass already, at least in your profile pic (I have no clue about in person) you are probably better positioned than a lot of younger girls to take advantage of the E!!

Also on the progesterone thing, from what Ive been told it won't necessarily accelerate growth, or even change the way your breasts look, but it will develop the internal structures (milk ducts and stuff), which is incredibly important if you want to breastfeed (I don't know how relevant that is for you)

If I'm completely wrong, on all this (which is a distinct possibility) some other lovely people can probably give you a better idea than me :D

Good luck!!!!! :)

Hi,

I started HRT at 58, no progesterone, I have B-C, going through a spurt again at the moment. I was very male looking prior to HRT and well now? I don't have any passing issues at all. So your future is rosy!

Oh going through puberty in your 50's is very strange

I would echo what Jo said. I started at 47 and have been developing well. If you are on a T-blocker I'm not sure what good finasteride will do as it blocks DHT which is a by product of T, if your body has lower T then the DHT probably won't be a problem. I would agree with you about the hairline, unlikely to grow back fully even using Minoxidil. If you pass wearing wigs and find you're not uncomfortable wearing them then that is probably what you need to do. (Just like me!)

I started at 49 and 362 days. My breasts and areolas are growing very well. I used a rash guard this summer on the beach. This fall I will be wearing my wetsuit but next spring even with the wet suit the beach will be interesting. I think by that point I will have breasts too large to ignore or pass off. One day at the beach I got hit on very hard this summer by a woman. She kept on saying how young I look, how smooth my skin looks, how nice my hair is and how beautiful I am. It was very odd but flattering. I was never hit on by a male of female my entire life.

I think I look like a guy but my therapist keeps saying to try make up and a wig and I will pass.
