Hi Ladies,

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend....
So I have a question for you....
I will be beginning hormones on Sept. 4...I am 23 years old.  I have used Retin-A off and on for the past two years to treat acne and to help keep my skin youthful...It is an amazing product and does wonders for your skin but it can be harsh at times...I have been "off" for 6 months now and wanting to begin back.

SO my question to you is: should I begin hormones and give the hormones X number of months to help soften my skin and smooth it out some and THEN begin Retin-A or should I begin back to Retin-A NOW, while the hormones begin taking affect?

Which do you believe will yeild better results long term...
Have any of you had experience with this?

Thanks a million! :)

I think that is the type question you should be asking the doctor who is prescribing the hormones to you.

Retin-A and HRT is totally safe together, no interaction at all.

Retin-A will accelerate the normal changes of HRT by accelerating the turnover of the skin (so you get the male skin out quicker). It has much advantages on skin tones, but in your 20's you won't see that as much.

It works continuously to undo damage, even after 2 years, the base of the skin is still improving. The only problem, you've got to always put sunscreen on and carry it with you or you'll have a very bad sunburn (you have been warned) since it disactivate melanin's action when its used. After its stopped, melanin is reactivated within about 1 month.

Best thing is to use it conjonction with AHA's (lactic acid (like lac Hydrin) and glycolic acid daily (Neutrogena has a good PH balanced slow release 10% day cream) ).

Thanks so far for the advice.
So Keira,
I have been off Retin A for about 4 months now and I want to start back soon.  My first Laser Hair removal session for my beard is Sept. 6.  The lady at the Laser Doc. said I could use Retinoids just to stop use 2 days before the laser sessions.  So I know the first few weeks back on Retin A can be a little ruff on your skin.  Do you think I should begin back to the Retin-A now (8/11) or just wait until after my first laser session...would it help/harm the hair removal session?
Just curious...let me know

Thanks girls! :)
