My doctor started me on P last month. Since then my sex drive seems to have gone way up. Is this normal for P? TIA ladies.

Mine sex drive did not go up. Only my boobies! For me "P" seemed to compliment the "E" as far as filling in the psychological holes so to speak.  :)

Some have reported the same thing happening with P, also depends on what you are taking, a progestin or bio-identical progesterone. In any case, not uncommon. In my case, I think it has as well but hard to know for sure if it's also not due to the increased E. I like it. :) And have seen no increased androgenic symptoms suggesting an increased effect of androgens, such as increased body hair growth or oily skin, on the contrary, my body hair has become much less. :)

My doc prescribed me P from the get-go.  I was thinking it was supposed to be taken in a cycle (one week, every four weeks or something) but he told me to just take one every day.  It's only been a month though, and I have no noticeable growth on the boobies.

:-\

Really just hoping these HRTs knock down my body hair substantially.  Been using an at-home laser and it doesn't seem to be doing much.  Two laser sessions on my face and I have noticed an incredible difference.  Excited to get my third session in on Friday!

Oh transition, how exciting you make life :)

P gave a slight increase in sex drive. I also found it can give me insomnia. He prescribed X amount a day and after about 3 days the insomnia kicks in. I tried to push through it but the insomnia never went away and I didn't really notice a lot of changes in my boobs. So then I started taking X amount for 3 days and then 1/2 a pill for the next 4 days cycling like that. The insomnia went away and about 2 days into the 1/2 pill cycle my boobs get really tender, which is always a good sign :) I've been doing this P weekly cycling + my E/spiro for about a year and went from a 36B to a 36C and they still are growing :)

Seems to be the primary purpose of Progesterone from what I've read. Some people also swear it helps fill out breasts.

I'm gonna look into getting on Progesterone at my next appointment. I've heard of people having less drive on HRT, but mine is literally non existent right now.

I also take P daily. :) I personally don't think cycling is necessary for us and can even create undesirable highs and lows. But, to each their own, I guess.

Short-term success does not guarantee long-term success with laser. Sometimes, hair grows back years (1-2 yrs) after last treatment. Electrolysis is guaranteed though.

I also found it can give me insomnia.

It helps me to sleep well and quite profoundly for a few hours, at least. I do get weird and quite vivid dreams also. I take a high dose of P orally and a high dose of E by injection.

P actually helps some with insomnia but I've also heard from a few that it can cause insomnia as well, perhaps related to how much E one is taking?? Just speculating...

Having been on E alone for 7+ years or so before ever starting P, the old perspective I'd adopted from my hrt-specialized physician that I don't need P because it's "not necessary for feminization" just seems ineffably skewed.

I'd been suffering for years with all the effects of estrogen dominance syndrome. I started P and within a few days everything just started opening up - I eat more (good for breast growth... my first question when people complain about hormones not working: "are you eating sufficiently to promote growth?") sleep soundly, and am just less stressed out.

Physical effects are great, but I can't see why they should warrant any attention before first checking the conscious and sub-conscious psychological effects of one's hormone regiment. In fact for some like me it can be hormonal imbalance effects making one think it's the hormones not working, or that one is just not fully responsive to feminization, etc. Essentially, P at this point seems to have a greater hand in my wellness than even estrogen, and there may well be potential hormonal / psychological imbalances simply inherent to not including progesterone. Whoever described the feeling with P as "balanced" put it succinctly.

I think, like HRT itself, each person is going to react differently to these meds. It takes a while to find the balance that works for each individual.

And all meds are like this, my boy friend almost becomes comatose if he takes bendryl, it barely has any affect on me. You really can't go by what worked or didn't for other people, a lot of this is trial and error IMHO.

All medications can do strange things.

I had some antibiotics shut down my liver and almost killed me. That wasn't "listed" as the side effects so the doctor (an idiot) assumed the antibiotics weren't the cause.

I was finasteride for a while and noticed I just felt weird a few months later and wasn't sure what was going on. "Foggy" is the best was I can describe it. Just felt like I was mentally dragging. I knew the only thing that had changed was we added this med, I quit taking it and two days later I felt normal again and even my vision was notably brighter/sharper and more colorful! This "fog" came on so slowly it would have been easy to miss/dismiss as nothing.

Anytime you start using medications, you -really- have to listen to your body and look out for any random side effect.
