So last week my dilator went in deep by accident. Today it felt wierd dilating and felt like I had to pass gas while dilating and air coming out but I don't know if it was from my anal area or vaginal area.

Question is how does one know? Is it something that one can overlook or is it something that one can instantly tell that their is an issue? What does it feel like? Basically just want some reassurance..

I am 6 weeks post op now and I had the same feeling and when I dilate before taking #2 it's harder to dilate but sometimes I dilate and i pass gas and I would rather pass gas while dilating than keep it in. I read on a medical website that keeping gas in isn't good for your intestines and could deteriorate your intestines walls or cause gastrointestinal disease.

But I think it's normal. I should ask my gynecologist next time I see her...

You can Google for it, but passing gas from the vagina is the first symptom that Brassard warns about.

However. If you aren't sure whether that's what happened, the odds are very good it didn't; also, so long as you don't have actual feces leaking from the vagina or a high fever, you're likely fine. It can't hurt to see a doctor if you're really worried, but it's probably nothing.

(The one woman I know who actually had a fistula, was able to see the feces oozing through a hole in there every time she had a bowel movement. It wasn't subtle or easy to mistake what was wrong.)

Oh, and the nurses said that if a fistula hasn't happened in the first week - while you're still at Aesclepiade - it almost certainly won't, and never has to any of his patients yet.

You don't know how much better you made me feel. I'm just over reacting and paranoid 99.9% sure lol

Glad to help. :) I was hysterical about everything immediately post-op too!

Keep an eye on it, and if there's anything else worrisome, have a doctor take a good look with a speculum. But honestly, I bet it's fine.

you may when dilating feel air coming out this more than likely will be air from your vagina you are effectively putting a largish object in there and may push air in as you insert it you may also ferl air moving through your bowels as well then coming out things are a little tight in there x

I have the exact same feelings if you described - went to see a gynae and she said she's quite sure and affirmative that it is not a fistula.

something else to add is you can get air in there if bend or crouch in certain postions as well.
