I don't watch many movies anymore but the one that had the biggest impact on me this year was Lucy.

The good in it was it didn't seem like 2 hours went by. The bad pretty much everything else. To not give anything away, it should have been a tv series not a movie. I didn't like the role that Scarlett Johansson was given, she wasn't able to shine like she is capable of.

Good and bad is hard for me to nail down. Some movies are actually quite good (well made, interesting premise, good story snd acting) but I didn't like them all that much. Some were rather trashy but I enjoyed them anyway.

I'm a sucker for scifi super hero movies... no surprise I really enjoyed Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy. I also enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon 2, much better than I might have expected.  X-Men  was fun but I haven't summonsed the enthusiasm to watch it a second time. Not sure if it came out this year or last but I finally watched Looper and liked it. Didn't like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, no surprise, in fact it was nowhere near as terrible as I expected but it was pretty predictable and mostly boring. Didn't like Lucy either, interesting concept utterly ruined by mind numbingly stupid and unnecessary violence. Did Star Trek 2 come out this year? If it did it was utterly forgettable, a shame as I loved the first in the reboots. The Spider-Man & Electro movie? OMG so very tedious.

I did try to watch some arty style movies to... Her was interesting but glacial, Space a Station 76 was just glacial, Never Let Me Go had some truly thoughtful themes but was also glacial and it really depressed me with its amoral dystopian outlook.

StephanieC you're so right about the Imitation Game.  I had tears in my eyes at the end of the movie.  I can't remember the last time I had that experience.  So much of this movie hit home, the awkwardness, the nerdiness, and  the rejection by society.  In the end,  the  total injustice given to such a great person, who saved so many lives, made me well up. 

Maybe also I was also thinking about the contrast of Turing being forced to take female hormones and it destroying him, with the fact that I would love to take HRT and how not taking them is destroying me.  Very emotional.

I recently saw Predestination via iTunes, it's a sci-fi movie with a bizzare but interesting trans/intersex subtext.

I watch a lot of movies, so this took me a while...

Best:
Lego Movie - Should have been nominated for best animated...
The wind rises - seems like studio ghibli is only making sad movies now...
Grand Budapest - Ralph Finnes does an amazing job, as well as the rest of the cast.
Veronica Mars - Loved the show, loved the movie.
The Raid 2 - Very violent, but amazing action sequences.
Chef - best father film evar, Favreu and Leguizamo did a great job.
The fault in our stars - Cried so much in this movie...
Edge of Tomorrow - Tom Cruise doesn't ruin all movies he's in.
22 Jump Street - Channing Tatum.  Also made me laugh so hard I was crying.
Begin Again - loved the music, more than made up for super depressing start.
Boyhood - IMO best movie for 2014
Guardians of the Galaxy - Chris Pratt is amazing.
Hunger Games, the hungering part 1 - love this series
PRIDE - mostly historically accurate, and an inspiring story.
Skeleton Twins - Bittersweet, deals with depression and self harm issues.
Box trolls - whimsical and fun.
X-men days of future past.
Gone Girl - even Ben Afleck couldn't ruin this movie.
Birdman - so good
John Wick - A cute puppy is killed by bad guys in the beginning, if you can get past that part it's an amazing movie.
Big Hero 6 - watched it twice in theaters, that's how good it is.
Penguins - my mom is a sucker for these movies, but I ended up liking it a lot.
Hobbit 3 - can't wait for next Tolkein themed movie.  They bought the franchise so they can make new stories within Middle Earth.
Into the Woods - I wish Les Mis' new movie was as good as this.
Blue is the Warmest Color - not sure if this came out 2014, but great movie.

Worst:
Robocop - bleh
300 the sequel - pretty disappointing, although horses in the naval battle were the worst part.
Divergent - I'd say the books were better, but they really weren't.
Draft Day - if only Costner would do more sport movies, oh wait.
Brick Mansions - wasn't expecting much, got what I expected...
Spider-Man 2 - worst grieving montage evar.
Million Dollar Arm - struck out for me...

Pretty ok:
Godzilla - Bryan Cranston and Juliet Binoche are in the beginning!
Bad Words - funny, but a little depressing
Muppets Most Wanted - not as good as the muppet movie the year before.
Capt. America 2 - so much angst, they should just kiss and make up already.
The other woman - pretty funny at times, but I'm not sure if it passes the Bechdel test.
Neighbors - good movie, Zac Effron is super hot as always.
Hercules - Shirtless Dwayne Johnson
Lucy - I love Scarjo, but this is not her best.
TMNT - I didn't hate it, it reminded me of my childhood ok?
Maze Runner - best of the new YA Distopia movies, after Hunger Games.

Weird:
Under the Skin - it's so very strange.
Only Lovers Left Alive - kind of an argument between existentialism and nihilism that isn't concluded by the end of the film.
Book of Life - plot pacing wasn't the best, good otherwise.

Not sure if the first of the Rachel Vincent YA Vampire Highschool Movies was this year, but I was pretty disappointed by it.  I liked the books...

As for Spider-Man, that's what happens when you try to cram two stories and two villains into one movie. The Green Goblin/Gwen Stacy story should have been a movie by itself to give both their due. Instead it was crammed into the last fifteen minutes because they wanted to milk an extra franchise out of it all.

Totally agree.  The outcome however is that Spider-man has now been reunited with the Marvel Franchise.  No more Sony effing up Peter Parker. [emoji2]

hola la verdad que es una pelicula bastante interesante y que sin dudas para quienes tenenemos una mirada distnta sobre el genero , es suguestiva, pero lo debe ser mucho mas para quienes ni siquiera se lo palntean, una muy buena pelicula.
tambien aconsejaria una pelicula indie inglesa: la cual no recuerdo el nommbre , pero trata acerca de si estamos predestinados o podemos elegir nuestro destino, ya que en el guion plantean, una sociedad dividida por la frecuencia de la vibracion de cada persona y que ello determina su destino y suerte en la vida.. bueno, una lasima que ahora no recuerde el nombre pero apra quien la haya visto sabra cual es a la que me refiero.

Grand Budapest Hotel - <3
Guardians of the Galaxy - It was the best Star Wars movie since return of the Jedi
Birdman - the acting in this movie had me hard for two hours, which says a lot with the estrogen and spiro thing
Life Itself - I wrote an essay about my experience with this doc
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - I'm a comic nerd and the two week experience of this combined with Agents of SHIELD was a fantasy.  The movie was a great thriller even without the TV show tie in.
The LEGO Movie - Its Oscar snub is the biggest shamockery in recent memory
Boyhood - Lots of good moments, but the movie drags a bit
Big Hero 6 - I cried a lot
Begin Again - I saw it knowing nothing about it other than it starred Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightly and it blew me away.
Chef - The metaphor is a bit heavy handed and the ending was a bit too perfect, but it was a great experience
X-Men: Days of Future Past - Just ignoring any semblance of continuity bothers me, but it was too good to let it bother me too much. Also, Ellen Page <3
Edge of Tomorrow - I went into it with very low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised.
Anchorman 2 - It met expectations
The Interview - Very good for what it was
Amazing Spider-man 2 - It's a shame that Andrew Garfield became a victim of Sony's mishandling of the franchise, because he makes a great Peter Parker and I would have loved to see him under the direction of Marvel Studios. That being said, the movie wasn't awful and the ending made me cry (in a good way).
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 - By far my least favorite of the books, and wouldn't you know it - slowing it down and breaking it into two parts didn't help it.
