I'll ask my doc on Monday if it doesn't disappear, but have any of you girls experienced fairly intense prostate discomfort/pain due to prostate shrinkage as a side-effect of HRT?

Yes, it would come and go.

Almost four months of HRT and not so far. When did it seem to begin?

I had it for about the first 3 weeks.  When my E level was upped last month, it came back for a couple weeks.  So, yes, it can happen.

But I don't use them anyway so I don't care if they shrink away for good!

I've had the occasional ache in the bollocks and the damn things are almost gone but that's it. really.

I've never had this happen before but I do know that dutasteride will shrink the prostate and that the high dose finasteride tablets can,  if your on dutasteride you might want to switch to finasteride or you might want to lower your finasteride if your on a high dose of it, the prostate is the o so important g-spot or p-spot as it's most commonly known as, I just thought I'd point that out encase that's important to you. Shrinking it will lower it's function or completely shut it down.

Wow, I could have sworn I've been on HRT for longer.
O well this ticker will help me keep track.

That explains everything, dutasteride is purposely made to shrink the prostrate in cancer patients, low dose finasteride is for treating hair loss and the high dose finasteride is sometimes used to shrink an enlarged prostate, n sometimes mixed with another alpha blocker for prostate cancer treatment, but 9 times out of 10 doctors will prescribe dutasteride to shrink the prostate.
we really only need a low dose finasteride to take care of DHT and treat or prevent a receding hairline.

My free testosterone is almost non-existent so I'm happy there. I wonder if changing to finasteride would be better after I finish this new bottle. It would probably be cheaper since Walgreen's only gets the brand name, Avodart, in.

Yeah finasteride is much cheaper and it's not always a good idea to completely annihilate testosterone, it's better to just get it into the female range.

It's a small side effect that some get, some don't.   Mine went away when I upped my intake (daily) of cauliflower  & broccoli.  The "natural way" to push out Mr. T

Never had any pain. I have low levels of T and don't currently take dutasteride or finasteride but used to take some pre-op and post-op for a little while.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005
