Hi everyone! I have been checking into the forums over the last month or so. It has been just over six weeks since I came out to my wife. It just happened over a discussion about flip flops. I wanted something cute and went straight to the woman's shoes section of Macy's. Shock was an understatement but after many discussions and tears, we are moving forward. At 61, it was finally time for me to take this step.

I was out of the country so I found information about resources back home. I was able to find a counsellor that seemed to connect and was able to get an initial phone conversation and set up the first appointment. I really don't know what to expect, but am excited, to say the least.

I have really appreciated your posts. Your stories, and information, have really helped me deal with the ups and downs experienced to date. I will keep you posted as to how it goes.

Please do - can't wait to hear how it turn out.

And what a cool pre-Christmas present.  First therapy session.  You're going to be so relieved going into Christmas Day!  Life will seem so much more positive now that you're moving forward.

Great session! My counsellor is great. She is very experienced in dealing with people going through transition. My session even went overtime. Even though I am analytical by nature ad pre plan all things like this, I just let it go and went with what I felt t the moment. I said that I though that I rambled by she thought I was very coherent.

I came away with things to do and an timeline for the next session.
- set up appointment with GP for referral to endo for spring when I get back home.
- what to say to my son and when to say it.
- small steps still moves me down the path
- safety first ( relationships are important)
- set next counselling appointment

The only things that didn't go well today were 1) I didn't find the Christmas gifts I was looking for; 2) I could find a pair of black low boots!

That's wonderful news.  A good therapist is worth his/her weight in gold.  Glad you found one!

I'm 61, too, and you know, it's not too late to take steps.  Best of luck to you!  Just remember to be totally honest and hold nothing back.
