I was wondering if someone could give me a basic idea about how long after starting hormones that thicker head hair starts to grow in. I know its different for everyone but just a rough timeframe.

I think your hair wont become thicker. Its on your genes how thick your hair grow. Less DHT and more E2 can turn thinner hair (vellus) to become as thick as the main hair (terminal). Ive hormones now for 2 years. I always had thin, powerless hair and HRT didnet change it. The change of vellus hair will take a lot of years to get a usefull result ... 5-10 years i guess.

Since I increased my E and switched to injections AND also added progesterone, my head hair has gotten thicker whereas it got thinner when my hormones dropped YEARS ago...it takes time to see changes, several months to a year but hormones can make a difference!
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

I think this effect also depends on your genes, as everything else in HRT.

Yes but don't assume that your thin hair is due to your genes, perhaps it is due to an ineffective HRT regimen.

There are a couple of things you can add to your HRT regimen to promote hair regrowth.  Balding is caused by excessive amounts of DHT rather than free testosterone. Adding a DHT inhibitor such as finisteride will over time make a difference, but it takes most of a year to be noticeable.  If you are not using Minoxidil, you are missing the boat for an effective inexpensive treatment. 5% Minoxidil can make a huge difference.  Recently I added a micro roller to the mix and am impressed with the results.  Areas that were noticeably thin are filling out I use one from Amazon

For an idea of what can happen, three years ago I was bald.  My Avitar picture is from last month.  All the hair on top of my head is new, and it continues to improve.  The stuff works, but takes a while.  I really do recommend using the micro roller in combination with Minoxidil for the best results over a period of months rather than years.  Good luck,

Julie

All I know is that on E my hair has grown like crazy. Thicker, fuller and longer. Not even AA, just E by itself. Now I'm on E and AA it's growing steadily.

That said the women in my family generally have thick, full heads of hair, with the hairline going down almost to the forehead.

Your hair now is clearly fuller and thicker than last summer.  With Finisteride there is some initial shedding, but clearly that is past.  I think over the next six months you will see  continued improvement.  Do you have  a lot of short hair scattered in?  That is my pattern.  Thin short hairs become over time thicker and longer.  You're doing fine :)

But the hair dont feel fuller ...  ??? on the other side: yes, i see after hair drying a bit shorter hair in some areas growing up.
The little darker parts are from coloring. After doing this your skin is still a bit colored for 1-2 weeks. Its not "more hair"

Since starting my transition, I have lost almost all my hair all over. Finasteride/dutasteride reversed some of the DHT-induced damage and filled my scalp in again. Then I started Lupron in July and all my hair began to fall out in clumps. I had luscious hair in July and now I have almost nothing left anywhere. I now take estradiol and dutasteride and recently added spironolactone. Nothing helps. I was told I had fungal overgrowth and given ketoconazole shampoo, which made me lose literally half my hair in a week and thinned the rest of it. My dermatologist recommended minoxidil but I am afraid to use it because it causes dandruff, and I am unable to use dandruff shampoos because they make me lose hair, too. I am all out of hope and wanting to die. I know I can feminize nicely if I get my hair back. I guess I have to try the minoxidil. I mean, how could it hurt if I am going bald anyway? Please help me, someone! Is there anything I can do? I cry all the time and this is why!

Never underestimate the power of estradiol or the people who have it.

Well im not needing to worry about regrowth or balding, im 22 with slightly wavy thick black hair down almost to my navel, but my hair is thick because of the high quantity of hair not the individual strands, I heard from several people including my endocrinologist that the actual hairs would become thicker and stronger, and that's what I was wondering when would start to happen

I think my hair will never reach a length more than to my shoulders and it looks ->-bleeped-<-ty. My hair was always my biggest problem and it steals really a lot of passing. Thats so frustraing because i cant do anything.
