Formal Androgynous Outfit

In just over a month, I will be attending a formal party for my sister-in-law. I identify as female, but I'm not out to many people, who will be at this event so I'm not comfortable wearing a dress (nor would I look good in it anyway. I also don't want to wear a suit and tie or tux, because I'd be mistaken for a guy.

Does anyone have any ideas for clothing styles I can wear to this formal event.

I am MtF, but going sort of Androgynous.

Pant size 11-13 Juniors depending on brand.
Bra Size 36A but may get a 36B with some padding to make them look bigger.

Colors for the event are Burgundy (red wine) and Beige (white wine)
I figured I'd wear Black, with a Burgundy accent, and even less of a Beige accent.

Also want to keep the price around $50 or less for the whole outfit.

You could try a women's formal suit. I wear women's scrubs even though I identify as male at work. From personal experience, boobs are pretty much the identifying marker for male/female sometimes if everything else appears androgynous.

I wonder if you could wear something like leggings or skinny pointe pants with a nice sweater or blouse and a blazer. May not be formal enough, but women seem with more when it comes to that sort of thing.

If it's very formal most women will be in dresses and gown and men will be in tuxes and dark suits.
If you are too casual looking, you will stand out, a sweater and leggings won't cut it.

I was here late last year for my sisters wedding so....

First: what does formal mean in this contex. Are we talking 'black tie' or just dressed very nicely dressed. If it is the former there is set rules so you may have to out yourself sorry. (I had a freak out when I saw formal dress on my sister's wedding invitation. Thankfully for me it was dress very nice).

Second: I wore a black pair of ladies pants, a ladies short sleeve shirt one size larger then nescersary as I was trying for a more androgynous look and a ladies jacket.

Third: Only the people that actually knew me saw me as male, (I was only out to one person at the wedding). No one else gendered me at all staff or other guests. (I asked and showed pictures here on a coming out thread was told I looked very femanine)

Fourth: I had none of this in my wardrobe so I had to buy everything say around $350 AUS, throw in hair + $130 = $480. The only place I saved money was a pair of mens lace ups. If I bought a pair of shoes also I could of added an extra $120.

If you want to keep the price around $50 or less. I would suggest searching thrift shops or your friends wardrobes.

A pair of slim-fitting slacks could really work well.  I'd do fitted black women's slacks, a burgundy blazer and a cream top.  I'm not sure where you could get that all for under fifty bucks though; I used to do that look a lot before I went more femme.
