I have mammograms every other year.  Its a crazy experience the first time because once your breast in between the plates, you are not going anywhere because they have a grippy material. They will compress them from all angles. Just lean into the machine and hold the bars.  I would advise not to look down at it. I did, and I never knew my breasts could go so flat! in every direction-- that was pretty bizarre looking.   The tech will help adjust each breast unto the plate. Don't wear deodorant or lotion so there is nothing in the way (they'll have alcohol pads to remove if you do) Does it hurt?  More like a dull ache really but in total amazement at how flat they can go.  I have what the techs call 'dense breast tissue'.  I hope yours is coming about for preventative. I wish you luck and a pleasant mammogram experience.

Leah,
I'm getting my first one in a couple of hours!  A rite of passage that my doc insists on and I am not really looking forward too.  Tell you what, you share your story, I'll share mine.  I'm going to a "Breast Center" here in Seattle and have been told that it isn't such a big deal.  Is to me though lol.

Ms Kitten, thank you for your post and advice. "Lean into the machine and hold the bars."  Gotcha :)

Not yet for me. Interesting stat though: Breast cancer among trans women on HRT is no higher than among cis men.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Well I had mine and can report it is cool and fun.  Nice people very cool to see my breasts from the inside, and when I was asked at what age my period started I could only smile.  So nice to be so validated.  But it is neither painful nor even uncomfortable.   I'm doing my happy dance.

I have had two of them no big deal, except when the tech is 5' and your 6'6" she had a problem getting me positioned.Had to get the first one before they would give me hrt as I was already a 34c tech said I had nice tissue. Received the second last Nov the head lady recognized me and said high asked a few questions then let the tech work.New machine and was easier but still squeezed hard enough I leaked ,but not bad at all. She said you have grown a bit since last year , now a 38 c-d .Blessed by the boob fairy. :)
I am a DES son and from some reports it is reported we have a higher risk of cancer and need to get checked every year especially if we are growing.
