Hi all, i started this new thread mainly for people who've gotten (unfortunately) UTI before and also as a helpful read for those planning to have SRS.

I've never had UTI in my life. But at 1 month post-op i got it. It worries me that this is going to be a recurrent issue i have to face for life (like many cis women do).

I've read my fair share of the causes, symptoms, and treatments yadda yadda...I'm not expecting a medical opinion or anything just trying my luck to see if anyone had similar experiences.

And so, I was put initially on 5 days antibiotics. During follow up at about 4th day, my GP said there were no more red blood cells (via a dipstick urine test) and it was a good sign - that the antibiotics was 'working'. But still, he said i shouldn't be having white blood cells in my urine.

He prescribed an additional 3 days of the same course. I went for my follow up again and today he said there are traces of both white AND RED blood cells again. The strange thing is i do not have symptoms (frequent urination, hot/burning sensation) anymore. Thus he suggested that I wait for 1 week to see him again.

While this is not life-threatening as of now, it just bothers me a lot when i know a part of me is not healthy/going well. I'm not sure if this implies a bigger problem (bladder/kidney) or its just the remnants of the bacteria from the infection and i probably need a stronger antibiotics to flush everything out?

I'll know in 1 week but meanwhile please share any thoughts! The thought of a kidney infection/being hospitalised is really something i don't want to go through!

Cranberry juice.

Good bathroom hygiene.

And they are more common in females then men due to a shorter urethra.

All part of being women.

For me they where all things explained before surgery and again after in my discharge instructions.

Sigh!

Welcome to womanhood!
Remember you just remodeled that whole area, so UTIs are going to occur more often because it's hard to manage pain and clean your lady bits.  Make sure to keep up with your hygiene maintenance, and drink fluids like cranberry juice, juices high in vitamin c, and lots of water.
If the problem persists even after full antibiotics courses, then you may need a more invasive exam, but perhaps an ultrasound could be done before any more cutting in the area.
Good luck, hopefully it's just the standard UTI.

Lol as I previously posted a while back about my 3 visits to the hospital due to uti one month after surgery after I got back home.

First time, the case was my blood count was too high along with my uti symptoms and my menopausal symptoms but then that got taken care of with antibiotics for uti, estrogen, and clean hygiene and rest. They prescribed me cephalexin antibiotics for uti and took them till the pills were gone.

Second time I went to the hospital was due to bronchitis then found out I had another uti coming lol. That was treated and this time they gave me an inhaler for my bronchitis and macrobid and a probiotic pill which I took till it was gone.

The third time which was middle of the third month after surgery i had intercourse and then caught another uti. The doctor prescribed me cephalexin and since then I haven't had any and I'm on my 4th month post op now.

Although, I NEVER had uti before so it's very common with cis women. So it's something to expect when you start smelling a strong odor in your pee and when it looks cloudy and you sometimes start feeling feverish or chills and pain after you pee.

Treat it right away or else the bacteria gets to your kidneys and damages it. I treated mine drinking only water and tons of it to flush out the bacteria. I asked if cranberry juice is ok but the doctor said just water and if cranberry juice, then it has to be 100% cranberry and cranberry juice has alot of calories so I just drank water while also taking my pills at the time of uti.

Thanks all for the reply.

I will, humbly, say that i read most of that online - cranberry juice (specifically why too, by acidifying your urine so bacteria are less likely to stay in the walls). Hygiene has been observed (As far as I am concerned) hence i was surprised i caught it. i know cis women are more prone and us, now having a shorter urethra, are more exposed to getting uti. At the time of posting this, my question was geared more towards a single confusion - why is there still blood cells in urine despite not having symptoms anymore? Just thought i clarify in case my first post was too wordy.

Then again, I guess i'll wait till i see the doctor again. He says he will send my urine to the lab/''culture'' if the problem still persists. 4 days more till i see the doc.

I guess i was expecting uti somehow but not so soon. And definitely not as frequent as Jojo had experienced. I cannot imagine having a uti after every intercourse!!!

I'll update again whn i see the doctor. Thanks again for all replies.

Yea i read that before and after intercourse, you should empty out your bladder. The first time I had uti was when the doctor told me that I had too much white blood cells which was causing my "aost fainting and dizzy" spells but that went away after I started taking hormones again.

hi jojo

thanks for replying - i think this shed some light.

i've been trying to get an appointment with my endo to get hormones but because of clashes in schedule i haven't got to meet him.

which means i'm only on estrogel since post op. this could be a possible reason since i haven't had oral HRT for months now.

this might or might not be the cause but it's a new insight i've never thought about. :)

I took hormones again after 2 months but my hormones expired and it's been 2 weeks I haven't taken any hormones which Im supposed to take once a week so I have to see my physician on the 28th of this month to get a new prescription. Other than that, I still have my cephalexin/keflex medication for uti and every time i feel like im about to get it, I take it till it goes away anjd so far it worked. I always have those on the side just in case uti happens again.

thanks mojo. i just saw my endo today and he recommended me to do my bloodworks after a month. meanwhile I'm back on E (pills)

seeing my GP tmr for yet another urine test. hope everything goes well.

side note: any chet girls can shed some light - recently my swelling went down considerably and now the top part (clitoris) can sort of open (previously it was always 'clammed up'' that said, I'm seeing a mustard-y yellow at the clit area....is that normal?
