How to post a picture as a reply on a forum?

I use Flickr as a photo hosting site and posted the link in between  without spaces, but for whatever reason, it's not working and it comes up in a box with an X in it. How do I fix this? I'm new to this site also.

The format is [.img]http://IMAGE URL[./img] but WITHOUT the dots

That's exactly what I did, but it isn't working.

Make sure the image is set to public, I use imgur because that always works for me
