It's a bit of a long shot, but you if the old gmail account has expired, you might be able to open a new one that has the same email address as the old one.
Hmm.. Thats an idea..!

They blocked me from using the name I had been using for a couple of years and panicked me into using my birth name which spawned concerned pms from my friends that I had changed my mind so to speak. I tried to change it but 60 days must elapse and I'm not convinced that will go easily. Hate them.

I totally agree! This real name thing is just so rediculously embarassing, Since i sent them a pic of my license last night, today they decided to let me have access (which was just changing my password) but the next page wasnt my facebook but instead a file uploader (for another copy of my ID) and three fields for my first middle and last name. So I gave them my id again, but instead of jacob shields I put Serenity, Theyre now reviewing it. I have a feeling im gonna be denied the ability to use my name. I  REFUSE to use my dead name anymore. NOT AN OPTION.

I refuse to use Facebook, but I do use LinkedIn which is much the same in principal. The difference is that I need LinkedIn for work and have no real use for Facebook - its not my kind of thing. Makes the decision easy I suppose.

I don't think many people realize what they are trading when the uses these services, although the cynic in me says that it wouldn't make any difference. I'm happy to hear you do know, it was comments about Intellectual Property and irreplaceable things that had me thinking otherwise. I have a tendency to get seriously annoyed about companies taking advantage of people like this. It kind of sets me off, and and I need far less of that in my life. I've got too many problems already. I generally keep my distance from them unless they have something I really need.

I did want to use Facebook once it get some info on some trans issues but they required an ID check, and I'm keeping my trans status hidden. There's no way I'm going to disclose it and my real identity to Facebook, and no way I can fight it since I'd lose the very thing I'm fighting for. Also, its kind of hopeless fighting companies like that. People win occasionally, but I seriously need less stress in my life. Those that fight the good fight though are helping the rest of us who won't. Not sure how I feel about that really.

As to doom and gloom, I think that what all of these companies are doing is exceptionally dangerous to our way of life. Democracy's not been around that long, and I can see it not lasting too much longer. The information and power these companies are accumulating would be very dangerous in the wrong hands, and historically there's never been any shortage of people wanting power over others. I'm feeling gloomy tonight - I probably shouldn't have commented here in the first place.

Hey now, all views and opinions are 100% welcome!! :) Im sorry if I came across a little rough.. Im just passionate about this and I cannot just roll over and be contempt. I know fighting this may be a lost cause, but maybe not!! I know where youre coming from, I have a lot of stress in my life as well, but if doing this gives me more then I will gladly take that weight, as I find it to be beyond worth it. I've spent the last 7 years of my life breaking down barriers and disarming prejudice, and this is the biggest battle yet. It feels like its my calling...

Super annoying. There was a guy in one of the FTM groups I'm a part of on there who had the same thing happen about a month ago (or a little longer). I think he just recently got it sorted out.

Do you happen to know what he did to get their approval?

The most radical, rebellious thing you can do in this situation, is to just walk away from Facebook.
Im thinking about it. We really need a revolution though. And I think that this facebook thing could be the shot heard around the world. Maybe im overthinking it, maybe im giving it too much credit, but maybe im not..

---a side note, Serenity, I love your choice of ticker.

On topic, I am not a fan of facebook, I have no images and few words. I think I use it as a calendar and way to find  the friendly people or family I have a hard time contacting any other way.

I'm sorry for the reference. Cindy's past name made a fake facebook account. How could they have shown ID?  I know I never did nor do I have my legal name on there.

Right? Not interested in that at all!! Suprisingly they seemed to accept my dead name I.D. but they keep referring to me as jacob. Not Serenity like they should seeing as thats the account in question... They really need to rethink this policy and method of operation. BC im poking holes in it left and right.

I sometimes think it is more of a transgender irritation than it is an ID plan.

I second that. Totally going out of their way to discriminate, while hiding behind policy and law. how cute.. That and/or its for government reference, cataloging if you will..

I don't think it is government related no matter how much they may say it is. Anonymity on the internet has always been an illusion if you know how to look.

This is very true.

If it means anything, facebook, like many other major websites, are attacked 24/7 by hackers, phishers, and account thefts. Everyone is right saying you pretty much have no rights on that site, outside of any financial transactions, but you are visiting someone else s "property". You might have to make a new account, but I hope your efforts workout for you.

PS: Love your profile pic  ;)

Let them try me. I came out on my male account as trans and switched over - made it public that Julia was my new name, though not my legal name. I will take Zuckerberg himself to court for discrimination if this happens to me.
To strive to reach the apex of evolution is folly, for to achieve the pinnacle is to birth a god.

When the Stryker fires, all turn to dust in its wake.

I hope you don't go through this too love. I did the same thing, I changed my name to Serenity from jake, I'm thinking about taking this to court but it is a bit overwhelming to consider... Though I know i'm not even close to alone on this B.S.! Is there a # for this?? Its absurd...
