anti biotics

heyt i just got some anti biotic from my dr and was wondering is it ok to take them with my hormones , my mum said they cancel out hormones just wondering if this is true

This would be something to ask your doctor. Assuming they know you take hormones, they should have mentioned it if there were any problem with interactions.  However, it seems unlikely that there would be, given that having both male and female hormones floating around in the bloodstream is pretty much the norm for everyone.

Your mum seems to just throw any old crap your way to hinder your transitioning.

I doubt your mum's a medic, so I would suggest you ask your GP for their opinion instead.

I started seeing a GP before I saw my endo for the first time. She was concerned about my BP being high. She put me on a medication without thinking about my future. She was fully aware I was trans and planned to transition. When I saw my endo, my endo said nope! You can't take that. She changed it for something else (which I didn't even need as my BP dropped on its own anyway). I mentioned this to my GP the next time I saw her and she said oh yeah absolutely that was the wrong medication to put you on with these hormones you're on. I'm certain she would have gotten it right if I had seen the endo first. I would be surprised if she's ever had a trans patient before. However neither one of them are going to let me take anything that will have conflicts. Also I'm certain the pharmacy would notice things like that too.

every GP i have seen dont know anything about Transgender subjects they never come across it before witch makes me feel a little vonrable in a way as they duno what or not to give me or what to do

Your Doctor would have told you. Ignore your mother. Ignore anyone who gives medical advice without training in the area they're talking about.

You can usually call your local pharmacist and ask about drug interactions.

Antibiotics can make birth control not work. But the function of birth control and antibiotics on a cis girl's cycle is not the same as canceling any hormones. It's more accurate to say antibiotics will make a cis girl ovulate even when she's on birthcontrol.

In my case the issue was the pills themselves not the actual hormones.

 the warning label or drug  print out info would tell of drug interactions.
even if it did cancel out the mones. it wouldn't make that much difference because of the short amount of time you are on an AB.
You should consult a MD or your endo.

It's just a really bad idea to listen to your mother (or anyone without medical training) for medical advice... Unless she is a doctor, and she is also YOUR dr.. Only listen to your Dr. They didn't spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours in class, studying,  taking punishingly difficult exams and doing crazy long hours as an undergraduate in hospitals just for a laugh you know 🙂 Next time anyone tries to give you medical advice, ask them what they studied at university.

I have never heard anything about a link between antibiotics and hormones!

Your pharmacy might have better advice on drug interactions.  Modern pharmacies have software that will red flag any possible interactions.  If you get all your drugs at the same place this should be automatic.  If in doubt, ask your pharmacist.

I actually had this concern awhile back and both the Dr. and the pharmacist told me there shouldn't be a problem, but I would suppose it would depend on the antibiotic and hormones involved in each individual case

Also, most prescription meds are accompanied by a rather lengthy description which includes interaction details, not the most exciting read but worth the time and knowledge

I am on an antibiotic to help with acne and still taking estradiol daily. My doctor prescribes both these meds and has not told me of any negative interaction so I would assume you are also fine. But like everyone else said, call your doctor if you are really unsure.

If you listed your HRT meds to your doctor, I wouldn't see a problem. I finally started listing mine. I recently went to a foot doctor who at first, considered giving me a steriod injection for pain. They doublechecked and figured out that might have adverse affects with my estrodiol. So essentially I have to live with this damn foot nerve pain.
