I am wondering what brushes are best, for my hair type and also which ones are good for keeping more curl when I want or taking away Curl when I don't want.

I know for sure I don't like HorseHair brushes, they are so rough and yank.

What if any combs should I also use?  ???

I have only one brush (a wet/dry) and I have a whole rack of combs. I use mostly the widest tooth comb if using a comb and try to avoid brushing or combing my hair when it is wet. If I want more waves I comb my hair with a wide tooth comb while damp and then put it in a tight twisted top-knot. I then either let is air dry unless I am in a hurry and have used a blow dryer some on low to get it closer to being dry. Afterwards it stays wavy for a good while (at least a few hours if not all day) depending on my activities. The smaller combs I only use to part my hair (or when I can't find anything else!! :P).

I would suggest you to use those comb which has wide tooth rather the one which are narrow, as narrow comb can make your hair tangled which can result into a hair loss.

I have naturally curly hair I just use my fingers to comb thru it, if  I use a brush it makes my hair lay flat . Also if you blow dry your hair use a diffuser it helps to maintain your curl.

I ended up using a combo so far or a metal hair pick/comb combo tool AND a boar hair bristle brush, which does a great job of adding body and sheen but makes it kinda flat. Still its working now. I use fingers too lol.
