The law makes an exception for employees of religious organizations. It defines sexual orientation to include "heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality or transgender status."
Colorado Springs adopted a policy change July 27 to comply with the law, Crossey said. The city's separate enterprise agencies, such as Colorado Springs Utilities, have done the same.
