ok so all I really see is people talking about how awful it is to be trans.. While I may have felt that way and thought wrong things 2 years ago, I no longer do. There is too much negativity in the trans community so I think there needs to be something focussing on the positive aspects of it

Personally:

  • Im grateful for the things I have that are right as I know what its like not to have them
  • I dont take being called he/him/his/sir/mister for granted. I appreciate it every single time I hear it cause I know what its like to hear the opposite
  • I wont take having a flat chest for granted after surgery cause I know what its like not to have it. I will be thankful every day for it while cis guys dont even think about it
  • I wont take having the right genital configuration for granted after surgery
  • I wont take having a more masculine body shape for granted once I get it as I know whats its like to be the wrong shape in the wrong places
  • I have learned a lot from it, it has made me more open and understanding than I probably otherwise would have been had I been cis. Its given me an understanding of things that cis people dont understand and I dont and cant regret this
  • Becoming right from being wrong is liberating
  • Basically appreciating what I have/will have while cis people take what they have for granted. No being trans isnt easy but if I could be given a pill to turn me cis I wouldnt take it, or if I could be reborn or whatever as cis I wouldnt do it. 2 years ago I would have but what I've learned since then, no
  • I am proud to be trans. What I've learned from it is invaluable. We have this insight that cis people just dont have at all and Im glad for it. No the suffering isnt easy at all and of course being trans isnt all positivity and I know plenty people arent in this place to see any positives at all (and I hope you get to this place as I have), but there are positives to it at the same time. We have this deeper sense of self, understanding and self perception than cis people do or ever could

My only regret is not doing this sooner

What are the positive things you have got from being trans? How has your mindset changed over time?

I used to think I had done something wrong to be born into this, how I wouldnt be a 'real man' and all that which I regret now as it was all wrong. I AM a real man and in a way I was lucky to be born this way and experience what I have to learn from it. No it hasnt been easy at all but Im seeing more positives than negatives now, my mindset has essentially done a 180 from 2 years ago and Im glad I got to this place. Im still pre surgery but my mindset has just changed from learning more. Anyone still feeling negativity about it, I hope you can at least see some positives over time as I have and reach some peace. As cliche as it may sound, things do get better. People say it all the time because it is true. It might be hard to see that now but with time things can improve. I am a very negative person, severe depression for 10 years had made it normal for everything to be negative so if I can turn that around and see positives then I think anyone can and I hope you do if you dont just now

Gaining courage, strength and pride in myself. It's true I wish I had done this sooner, but I wasn't ready and frankly there are experiences that I have had that have made me a stronger person that I might not have had otherwise.

Really for me, the big positive thing about it is that I've found that it really does help to weed out the crappy people from the more decent ones.

Hmm. Nothing I can think of that wouldn't have been better if I was a cis woman.

So far I have gained real trust in myself, I know I can survive even the worst of times, learn from them and persevere. I feel I posess a level of self knowledge that I probably would not have had if I had been cis. The years of strugle and searching have taught me exactly what kind of person I am.

I feel this way too. I've learnt so much within the last few months from this experience, about myself and about the rest of the world as well.

This is what I like to see  :) Agree with all of that

I hoped to see more positive posts though..

The idea of 'everything being better if you had been cis' I dont fall into. You wouldnt be trouble free, you would still have problems, just different ones. And you wouldnt appreciate the fact you were cis cause they take it for granted and dont appreciate any of it. Unless you knew what you know now you wouldnt think any differently about it than the average cis person does. Knowing what we know yes it would be easier to not have to go through any of this but without having lived this to begin with we wouldnt appreciate it or acknowledge that

I'm happy that I'm transgender. It wasn't like that util some days ago, but I learned to see it as something good. I do envy cis guys, because they have the body I wish I could have, but I think that I would be a worse person if I was born like that. I would be way more close minded and biased. That's a cultural matter here, I guess. Most of the boys are raised to be intolerant and bigoted and if they diverge from that, society will see them badly. They were raised to be always showing their "masculinity", and here it means being sexist and homophobic. I'm not saying that all cisgender guys here are like that, but I think I would probably be. Being transgender made me a more humble and understanding person.

Being and living life as the person I truly am is the best part of being trans.

I came out to my great grandmother the other day, and she gave me the most BEAUTIFUL emerald studs! Went and got manis and pedis with my sister and mother this last week (IMO kinda boring, but my mother is coming around which is great). Also went to my first support group and made some new friends! If that isn't positive, I don't know what is!
Being transgender does not give anyone a free pass or a hand out... we just want a fair shake and an opportunity as any AMERICAN and that is the freedom and LIBERTY that I fought for and defended.
