I realize on face value it sounds like a dumb idea and to do this on the 1st day of a new job, but scrubs are not cheap and these are not over the top sexy, feminine, or logo'ed/branded in such a way as to scream 'women's scrubs.' I have not started HRT yet, but will be soon. Even before I started my transition I would wear form fitting men's medical scrubs, I am starting a new job in the ER and I need to buy 5 complete sets of new scrubs in navy the color required by the hospital, this is about $250 worth and I am considering a slightly feminine contoured women's scrub instead of buying the more boxy men's scrubs and then having to buy a whole new set of women's scrubs in several months when the effects of the HRT start to show and I notify HR of my choice to transition. The two pix are the options to base a yea or nay on.

You can post pics in a comment on topics before you hit 15 posts. You do have to use a hosting site like photobucket or somesuch and then you have to put the url for said pic in img tags. The img tag you put in your post was devoid of any url.

I'd say you already went through the logical reasoning and came to your own conclusion so I'll be glad to give you affirmation; buy the "slightly contoured" women's scrub.

Ps. Good luck on your transition and telling HR. :)

Buy the women's scrubs, that sounds like the most sensible option to me.

Congratulations on your first day at work by the way  :)

Def buy the feminine scrubs.  When I was in nursing school, the place the school contracted with for our scrubs accidentally gave me women's scrubs :)  I had never worn scrubs before, and we didn't get a choice, so I had no clue until one of the guys pointed out that mine were different from his.  Then we looked at one of the girls, and figured it out.  I stuck with the tops, and no one ever made any fuss.  I had to switch to the men's drawstring pants though because I didn't have the hips to hold up the women's :(. It was either that or moon everyone every time I bent over.  I will say the extra pockets on the male pants were a godsend though.  If anyone says anything, you could just say you didn't know, you just liked the tighter fit.  Unless they are flared out from the waist drastically people probably won't even notice.

Welcome, and congrats on the job!  Good Luck!

I'd second what all the others already said: Take the woman's version. You'll have to explain everything you change and presenting slightly female will help you with that. It's like preparation.

Are you wearing clogs as well?

Probably won't be wearing clogs at least not right now as smaller changes will be less noticeable. Also we work 12 hr shifts and are on our feet the majority of the day so most RN's wear the most comfortable running shoes they can find.

Thank you for the advice on the feminine scrubs, I just could not see spending $250 two separate times first for men's scrubs then a few months later for women's scrubs.

How mean - our hospital provides us with scrubs and clogs. In fact we aren't allowed to use our own. They are all carefully laundered and prepared for the start of each day. We get unisex scrubs - the only difference is in the caps where women have the choice of elasticated as opposed to tied, which lead to some interesting banter in theatre between me and one of the surgeons they other day. He was teasing me for my involvement in the Challenger disaster (many years ago I worked with NASA for a short while, whilst working for an American company, where I was involved in developing testing protocols for the elastomers), meanwhile I was teasing him for being an obvious crossdresser by wearing an elasticated cap! ;D We both laughed.

Theatre can be fun, but I still want to do general practice. Agree with everyone if you have to buy then get the feminine ones.
