Hi, this may sound like an odd question and one I will ask my doctor next time I am there.  I have been on female hormones for almost 15 years.  I would LOVE to complete the need to be a woman but.... I am married and have 2 daughter's.  I love my wife as my best friend – no sex obviously and love my daughter's so very much.  That is what prevents me from taking the final step – I just can't leave them and want to be a dad to them.  I recently quit taking female hormones and started taking testosterone.  My normal testosterone levels are so low I don't need to take something like Spironolactone to reduce it.  I find if I don't take female hormones or testosterone I just feel like a slug and can't think straight.  I know testosterone helps get rid of the brain cloud and helps build intelligence.  I am going to stop the testosterone as it makes me feel shaky, drives the need to be a girl more and gives me migraines.  Female hormones make me feel great.
So my question for you ladies is – when you are on female hormones do you find it gives you energy and gets rid of the brain cloud?  For me the brain cloud is like not being able to think fast or think of words I want to use in a sentence.  I know my doctor will tell me to go back and stay on female hormones but I wanted to ask you how you feel about the energy and clear thinking when taking hormones.

When I changed over to patches from oral hormones my prescribed dose was too low and the effects I suffered were exactly as you described.  My energy and motivation dropped away and my ability to think clearly fogged up to the point where I started to worry that something was going wrong with my brain.  Once on the right amount of HRT again my mind cleared and my energy came back to the point where I almost felt supercharged for the first few days until my body's metabolism righted itself again.

When my doctor lowered my dose at one point because he said it was to high near the end of the cycle the lack of motivation, fatigue and brain fog returned. I quickly told the doctor about it and my dose and cycle were adjusted. So yes going back on the right dose definitely helps you feel better at least in my experience. As always mileage and effects will very from person to person. Good luck and hugs

I have used estrogen and at one point testosterone. irregardless of which you choose, the period in which you come up is known as a "bounce back" period because your natural hormones are still suppressed for a period of time before your pituitary recognizes the shortage and starts its natural production. I dont know if you plan on going on estrogen again but if you simply want to restore your natural test levels again, you can use fertility meds to aid in a faster recover. Clomiphene citrate is a common one, as well as HCG.

Shanna,

I am not a doctor so take this for what it is worth.

Self medicating can be dangerous. Using cross hormones without a doctors knowledge can result in serious health issues. Please consider reviewing what you are doing with your doctor.

I have never stopped taking hormones or switched CHT; however, when I increased my E dose on pills I felt better and when I decreased my IM time interval I felt a lot better. So the amount of hormones in my system has a direct effect on how I feel and function.

Wow,

Estrogen cleared my brain fog.....  I never tried testosterone again...

Hugs,

Jennifer
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

No one would ever convince me to go on Testosterone. Just clarify my response above was in regards estrogen.
