Hi everyone... I have a question..

I am finally becoming who I always was on the inside and am set to begin Hormones in May...  my question has to do with weight.  I am really big although you would never know it.  I weigh in at 270 pounds but look like I weigh 220 which is still way to big.  Thank you bodybuilding to try to fit it.  Anyway I am worried that the hormones may just make me fatter while killing all the muscle.  I have to add I am not changing my mind and I am defiantly moving forward but I am dieting like crazy and working out and I am stuck being big.  Any thoughts on the subject are greatly appreciated.  Thanks...  ;)

get a good healthy diet, my docter recommended a mediterrain sp? diet, and then walk, walk like you have never walked before lol i started at 263 in 3 weeks i am down to 243, i walk between 10-15 miles a day, which sounds crazy but its only walking which means it doens't wear you out like running or working out hard, on top of that you can do it healthy every single day.  with that you are only burning fat not building to much muscle which is perfect..... i start may 15.. dont know if this is any help but walking is amazing

I don't know what I weighed before HRT, but I know I was 200+. Now I'm 170. This is by choice and will not HRT. However I noticed when looking into SRS that the doctors mention its harder to operate on someone who is 200+. Some even charge extra. It turns out losing weight not only makes me look better, but I was doing myself a favor for whenever I have SRS.

It's very possible to lose weight while on HRT, just eat healthy, but I would start calorie counting. That's how I lost around 50 ish pounds in around 5-6 months .-.

It's not any harder to lose weight on HRT than it is not on HRT.  The same rule applies;  Diet, Exercise, Discipline.

I started losing weight on Jan 19th when I started HRT at 205 lbs and was 179 lbs this morning.

I just track my daily calories burned and eaten and try to maintain a 750 to 1000 calorie  daily deficit.

To track calories burned I wear a Fitbit all day and I record everything I eat on MyFitnessPal (a great website tool and community).

For food I eat whatever I feel like eating.  It really doesn't matter as long as you eat less than you burn.

For exercise I started out walking and then after a few weeks running.  I was a marathoner until a lttle over a year ago so I have been able to build that pretty quickly and am now running 9 to 11 hours a week plus some walking in addition.  That gives me a lot of extra calories so even with a large deficit I eat around 2000 calories per day..

I am doing pretty much the same thing I have done in the past when getting back in shape from a break and am getting about the same results except with HRT the fat and muscle loss pattern seems a little different as might be expected.

Hopefully I'll get to my goal of 165 within the next couple of months which with my 5'11" height and build is about as far as I think I can go while maintaining at least a lttle shape.  But we'll see about that when I get there.

thanks for all the help everyone......  It helps to know that I am not alone in the battle of weight just like it was wonderful to know that I was not alone in becoming who I have always been.  Luckily you are all so beautiful that I really got a pep in my step and hope that I to will look half as good.   :D

A couple years ago I stopped eating sugar and I lost 10-15 lbs like nothing.

I stopped eating processed foods and another 10 came off easy.

Drinking lots of water when I had cravings usually pushed me through until my addictions faded.

I've lost 65 lbs. in the past 7 months with almost 40 of that while on HRT.  It's definitely possible, and I haven't found it to be any easier or harder than pre-HRT except for when I first started hormones, I was ravenous for a few weeks.  I cycle my diet so that I lose fat and muscle from all over my body, then gain back some back.  When I go through a gain stage, the muscle will be leaner and the fat will deposit more in the breasts and hips.  Ultimately, I've been able to lose a ton of weight and still get the positive feminine fat redistribution effects of HRT.

I lost a ton of weight. Down from 210 to 160ish now. It slowed slightly on HRT. However I feel much better about myself now. I want to maintain something around 145-150. I'm 5'6.5".

Deborah's right, calorie restriction is all you need really.  Burn more calories than you eat and you'll loose weight.  I dropped 20 lbs over about 4 months by keeping to 1200 calories/day.  Be careful of "starvation mode" though, I think if you eat less than around 1200 your metabolism and energy will drop instead of burning fat.

Before I started transition, I hated that fat only went to the stomach (thanks testosterone), and that any muscle made me look masculine.  So I kept myself between 125 and 130 lbs (for 5'7").  After starting HRT I've gained about 13 lbs, and I'm so happy it mainly goes to my hips and legs (though I can see some tummy also, grr) and of course some to the chest.

I think most girls struggle with weight prior (maybe even during) to transition.

There could be a lot of reasons. Males usually weigh more to begin with (muscle, male eating habits). There is also the fact that many suffer from depression due to dysphoria, and depression can cause weight gain.

Diet and exorcise is a good place to start. Drinking lots of water can help too. I myself try and drink a gallon or near so every day. It helps digestion as well as boosts metabalism. It also helps to cut out soda to a minimum, as I find a good deal of calories I consume come from that.

Non diet sodas are a big problem for most people. I think its around 250 calories per bottle from memory and depending of course on type.  I'm currently pre hrt and have gone from 280 down to 213 as of this morning through calorie counting with MyFitnessPal. I exercise very little, I did Tai Chi for a while and now I dabble in Yoga and stationary bike but the calories burned are minimal, I do it mostly for flexibility and cardiovascular health more than weight loss. Sadly the best way to burn more calories is to increase muscle mass but in our situation that can be tricky. Focusing on legs, abs, and glutials with minimal low weight exercises for the arms and chest is best in that case.  In all honesty though until you get down to your target area the calorie restriction will do more than any exercise.

Iam 5'7" 160lbs lost twenty in that last year. My goal is 140. I know that's pretty extreme but that's a part of the total new
me that Iam striving for...really trying to eat healthier..lots more fruits n veggies. Lots of water..dropped raw sugar, sodas, beer, French fries.
cut way down on red meats.
Had my bicycle up on a trainer to see me thru this winter. Now I can get out and enjoy this world again..
I think it has something to do with the hormonal changes..I can't seem to keep away from chocolate..oops!
