selecting a therapist
April 14, 2015, 01:27:42 PM
Hello
I am looking for a therapist and was wondering what to look for. I am pretty lucky that I am in Ann Arbor and there are quite a few choices. It is a very liberal town and pretty diverse. It is kinda scary being that open with a stranger. Any advice would be a great help. It seems a little overwhelming to get started but I know I can't go on like I am. It is time I changed I just wish I had courage to do it sooner.

Here's what I'd look for in a therapist:
* You trust them.
* They both listen to you and offer their own ideas.
* They seem knowledgeable on trans issues.
* They start their sessions on time and are easy to book appointments with.

I kept my therapist based solo on the fact she I sat down in his office, I just bursted into tears and he was right there, no judgments, no harsh words. he just let me cry my heart out

I contacted one today and she seems nice. There were so many choices around Ann Arbor with extensive backgrounds in the area.

I met with a therapist today. She was awesome. It was very easy to talk to her. There were many choices in Ann Arbor and I think it got off to a great start.
