Worried about work

I am finally  talking to a therapist
And I'm confident she's going to write me a letter
then I have to find a doctor I my doc won't treat me
and I'm on my way.
I'm just worried about getting work after I get out of school
I'm a computer science major with maybe 3 more years left

though it may be pressing, its best to focus on finishing school than finding work at this moment. actually computer science is one of the most needed in the job market because everything is going digital these days

While I don't know much about the smaller businesses, I know larger companies such as Google, Microsoft, Intel, etc. tend to have support in at least the form of policies to support and protect transgender individuals, and in the case of one I applied for an internship for, they seemed to actively support finding jobs for transgender individuals, and I also know of a trans woman (friend of a friend) who is hired to do backend programming.

However, I do have to agree that schoolwork is the more important at this point. If your school has a co-op program, they should be able to help you find other areas that are supportive, but in any case, there used to be a resource I had that showed employers that at least had policies that were transgender-friendly. I'll have to look for that again.

Personally I'd rather be unemployed and who I really am than have a great job and still be living a lie.

I won't say that your fears are unfounded, but I don't think it's as big a deal as you think it is.

Comp. Sci is probably the easiest job in which to transition. No one cares what you look like or your gender. They just care that you can get stuff to work.

Where I work IT has a very diverse work force. We have 600 IT employees and many contractors. My employer has a high value on diversity and the president is the head of the Diversity group with a EVP directly assigned for support. We have several Trans at work.

Are you in a comp sci field? I just assumed it wouldn't be a good career path because it's so male dominated.

well try not worry a lot about interviews. In computer fields, it is far more about what you can do than who you are. And with 2-plus years on HRT, the will see a young woman. And, by the way, they are not allowed to even ask.
When you get to that point, think of the job search AS a job. You might land the first opportunity, or is may take a few..just the way the job market works.
