Question about hystorectomy with oopherectomy

So I posted concerns previous about getting a hysto with ovaries removed concerning menopause. I had decided that i would go ahead and take my ovaries after learning i wouldnt experience menopausal effects since i am already on T. However, I had my pre-op appointment today and my gyno expressed concern about early death associated with taking the ovaries out at a young age. She said that i could get osteoperosis, dementia, cardiovascular disease, ect. But theses were also studies done on women who had a full hysto with ovaries that did NOT take hormone replacement therapy afterwards. She also recommended taking low dose estrogen to help with osteoperosis which i am not sure is necessary for someone that is transitioning. I am slightly concerned with these issues and I was wondering if these are an issue for someone that is transitioning and on  testosterone.

wkly1269, is this GYN experienced with ftm who have total hysto or cis women who have them.  You are in entirely different situation when you are taking t already and will continue taking it.  There could could I guess a small increase in cardiovascular disease to start out, as cis males have a greater incident of these problem, but cis females caught up to cis males after they go through menopause.  As long as you start and stay on t I wouldn't be concerned; I know I am not when I have mine.

My OB/gyn who did my hysterectomy (with oophorectomy) said as long as I remained on T, I didn't need to worry about increased risk of osteoporosis, etc. she did ask if I planned to remain on T for life (which I do) and said as long as that remained the case, I didn't need any other additional hormonal supplements.

Thanks guys. I think my doc has never dealt with a situation like mine before. She did end up calling me last night to correct herself, saying as long as I stay on T for life I shouldn't have any issues. I will say, I can't wait to never visit the female doctor ever again haha

I agree. That was one of the things I most looked forward to as well! Also, never having to worry about having issues with those parts again is a a huge weight off my shoulders.

I hate to break it to you but unless your cervix was also removed, you will still have to get regular paps for cervical cancer concerns.

Request a pap while you're under general anesthesia for the hysto. Unless you're getting your cervyx out.

Isn't the cervix always removed along with the uterus?

Mac1, no. The surgeon who did my hysto told me it would help maintain structure.

If your surgeon understands why you are having the hysto, they will usually remove the cervix. You may have to request it. My surgeon did it as a matter of fact since she has done hysto's for other trans patients.

my surgery was done because it was medically needed. insurance wouldnt clear the removal of the cervix because there was nothing wrong with it.

My surgeon removed my cervix as well as everything else. i should be good
