My uncle passed away last night. He was my mom's only brother, and her big brother. He lives north of the border in Winnipeg.

He was really badly ravaged with diabetes. Probably type 1 after being type 2 for a number of years. Left uncontrolled, type 2 will turn into type 1 when it destroys your body's ability to make insulin.

Anyway this was a huge wake up call to all my family about their unhealthy lifestyle. Eating lots of bad junk food for starters. My mom is now looking to get herself checked up. She needs to, and she's the most supportive person I have, besides.

Kind of makes you remember that life is short and fragile. Make the most of it. You only have one life to live.

Big hug! Sorry about your loss, hon. Life is short, and you only get one go at it.

Thanks everyone.

My mom really loved him. She is devastated. He came to our house a few years ago and had a good time with the kids. They loved him.

When my aunt called me this morning she was crying. She loved him too.

He owned a small engine shop and while some of the family (my dad for example) didn't hold him in high regard, he had a lot going for him. He started out as a taxi driver and eventually worked several jobs before starting his own business. He sold snow blowers, lawn mowers and other power equipment. He would also repair them in his shop.

My regret is that I never got to visit him in Canada, but we did meet up in Trinidad and the U.S.

A good guy. RIP.
