I'm worried I'll never get my G.R.S. and it's so hard to face this reality. In Alberta it's covered mostly but they only do 25 per year and the list keeps growing and I'm not even on it yet and wont be for over a year. At this point in time I will likely have to wait at least 10 years for surgery and possibly a lot more. The idea of that much time stuck the way I am is unbearable to me. That means I'll also probably be single for life.

Hey Bree

Welcome to Susan's  :)  Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Your concern is not uncommon for many trans people. It was definitely a major concern for me the first time I tried to transition... that was twenty years ago and I'm still waiting. Are you living full time, have you started HRT yet, are you talking to a therapist? First things first, one step at a timem and then you can start to plan towards the really major stuff. :)

Please check out the following links for site rules, helpful tips and other info...

Cheers

In alberta as well and middle aged too but the way I look at it Is this. I am still waiting to get the call for hrt once that is done and I start hrt then that's when its time to think about surgery. Basically what Ms. Grace said one step at a time.

And yes the wait has given me more time to really think on this which is a good thing for me anyway but even that is looong. All good things in their time:) If didn't know there are 2 doctors that clear for hrt but one seems to be lesser known if that might help.

I'm on HRT as of two weeks ago. (though frustrated because I was given and improper dosage that I wasted money.) I have a referral for Petryk. Who I'll hopefully see in about 8 months to a year.

I know how it feels to feel like it's so far out there and it's being delayed by one hoop or another, but the key is to focus on one thing at a time and move through the hoops. As much as we want to move forward quickly it really is a marathon and that extra time might not be what we always want, but it allows us to be sure that we are doing what is the right thing for us. I hope things move along quicker than you feel they will at the moment. Good luck and Hugs.

Hi Bree,

Although I'm not in Canada I do understand what having to wait is like, As Mariah said you have to focus on the imediate things you can do to change things, Things also change with rules and there is not telling if Alberta will fund more surgeries in future, When I was in UK suffering under NHS delays they eventually started to send folks to Belgium for surgeries as they didn't have any surgeons who could step in and reduce the list. Not sure how long this was done because I'm sure a few on here will tell you there are huge delays even getting to meet a surgeon in Uk let alone get an op.

On the subject of being single, I was 8 years pre op and I did manage to have relationships and I'm hardly Miss World so I do feel if you are positive your natural inner beauty will attract a partner for you. I know all seems a long way off and a post op telling you all will be fine may sound dismissive but I genuinely feel you can get there and be happy while you are waiting.  ;D

I do hope this helps you, I am always available to chat by e mail if it helps you  ;D

Hugs

You don't have to wait, you can be the master of your own destiny by working 2 jobs or 1 full-time and one part-time, work towards a promotion at your current job, go to school and get a degree if you don't already have one, or start some kind of business. Best wishes...

Also happen to have referral to see Petryk and now I have to ask you had the wrong dosage but have to wait 8-12 months to correct dosage ? I am not asking for your dosage but just hoping when I start I get the right one too or you just happen to get unlucky with a mix up/

Thanks ahead of time just have me concerned for myself and well for you to have to wait to correct and or change dosage after 8-12 months does not sound right. I thought it was you must check in after 3 months.
