It was bearable though, I think actually it hurts "less" than the laser, save for the part where they pull the hair after they shock it. I am on a 27mhz machine and the zaps are something I can deal with. Even on the sensitive areas. This is a new tech apparently and I am glad for it.

My laser is also new its a yag and it hardly hurts at all until of course you get to the chin and lip, then its rather intense. But my face is starting to look nice. And I was so lucky and blessed to get it from a clinic for transgender folks who have little money.

oh oh oh, a tip when it comes to Electronilisis,   Take some benedryl or however you spell it an hr before your session starts, it really helps with the redness and the puffy feeling.

Epilating the hair after sending the current through it should not hurt at all. If it does, then the hair has not been properly treated.

At least, that's what I've read and my experience with electrolysis confirms it. Are you certain that your electrologist isn't just undertreating and then plucking hairs?

Yes as Sarah said there should be no pain when they tweezers the hair out. If the hair was treated right it should slide out with no resistance. If they are plucking hairs and you feel a strong tugging. I would run as fast as you can.

What a great suggestion!  I'm frankly amazed I've never seen it suggested before.  I'll try it at my next appt - tomorrow.  I'm at 105 hours and take along ice and aloe.  I ice immediately after in the car and apply the aloe, re-doing both several times in the first hour.  It helps a lot, but Benadryl added may be even better.

Yes and no.  Yes absolutely as it applies to any hairs being re-treated after regrowing.  Not necessarily as it applies to first treatment.  Some people (and some hair) have either larger bulbs at the base of the hair, and/or narrower pores.  Hydration is important, too!  Dry skin WILL exaggerate the tug.  Something else that will help is regular masking to remove any surface dead skin.

I guess they know what they're doing but I'm confused why they would do both at once.

To me laser and electro have to be done separately, as in you do the laser then the electro is done when laser can do all it can do?

Also why are they using Nd:YAG on your light colored skin?

Well I found out why it hurt to pull so much

My hair was too long...for days growth...she said better with 2.

It is a Cutera 1064 ND Yag
It is designed for multi skin types
As well as good at lighter brown hairs.

I'm really surprised that she would even work with two days growth.  Up until recently, my tech needed at least three and preferably four days.  That is still the case below the jawline. Above the jawline she now prefers me to stop shaving entirely as I am down to the thinnest and lightest hair there, much of which is slow-growing, weak, regrowth.
