I found a speech therapist who is a two hour drive from where I live so I can't go very often. How many sessions would you say is the minimum for being able to make my voice sound masculine? Would 4 or 5 be okay or should I forget it altogether if I can't go more than that?

I'm sure that question can't be answered.  Too many variables.  It will depend on the person as an individual - everyone is different and has a different voice with different limitations, different learning styles, etc.

Agree with Kreuzfidel. Way too many variables to say for sure. Are you on testosterone? Have you worked on it by yourself first, and if so, for how long?

If you're on T, I'd say spend some time on it yourself for about six months minimum before considering a professional. There are apps and videos out there that can help with this. Most guys seem to have at least one major voice drop within this period, and many people get additional depth after a year.

If you're not on T, I honestly don't think you can expect too much deepening to take place. Testosterone is making vocal cords thicken and muscles in your throat change. That is what causes the drop. A professional will be able to train you to speak from your chest instead of your throat, and perhaps go over typical male speech patterns, but these alone won't necessarily make you sound masculine.

Honestly, probably not what you want to hear, but I personally would not put money towards this. It's super helpful for the ladies, but for the guys, testosterone does a much better job at altering the voice. There are free resources that you can access from home that will probably be more worthwhile unless you've been on testosterone for some time and are having trouble passing.
