Future for Trans people in the Military?

So, I'm a freshman in high school, and I would love to be able to serve my country (USA) and be able to get an education. The sad thing is that there is still a ban on transgender people serving, but I've seen some articles from last year where they are considering reviewing the ban since DADT was removed. Is there a possibility that the ban could be lifted in a few years? I really want to be able to apply for a ROTC scholarship or of the sort. I'm also concerned that with elections soon, it may not be reviewed? I don't know much about this stuff. Any input would be great.

Are you going to transition in highschool or after you are done with the military? If it is afterwards then they won't even know your trans.

Maybe a current or ex service member will come into this thread.  You may want to post this in the general transsexual forum as well, so that a wider group of individuals see it.

My understanding is that recently there has been a change where if you are identified as trans in the Army, it has to go way up the chain of command before the person is discharged.

I think that recently Obama supported trans troops.  I think.  Hopefully someone will weight in on that.

I don't know if in 3 years things will be changed, but my opinion is that we will continue to move forward in that way as long as we have another democrat in the white house.

From the latest news I've read officially speaking you can't be openly transgender in the military, but the paper work to get kicked out makes it almost impossible to get kicked out for it. I just got out of the Army in Oct 2014 and started hormones in Jan 2014 while I was still in my commander found out about it and even though he didn't like it he actually wasn't able to much even before the new rules. I'm not saying everyone should join the military and go on hormones, but I don't think its going to be that bad. I even went to parties at other soldier's houses dressed as myself and just got treated as one of the female soldiers because we were all friends. A lot of the people of the new generations don't give a crap about hating others, its older generations stuck in their ways.

I'm hoping to/planning on at least starting T before the end of high school, which I hope I can continue with in the military, if I'm allowed in.

I didnt think about that, I'll probably go post it there soon, thanks. I'm just afraid there won't be a democrat to speak their opinion about it, but I guess we'll see.

So hypothetically, lets say that I'm a senior in high school, (3 years) and I'm on T, and I have my name/sex legally changed on my licence. But if the ban was still there, do you think I would be able to apply for a military scholarship? Considering that I would look like a bio male and it would say so on my licence.
