I was just wondering how many trans individuals that you know of have you encountered through out your life. I personally worked with a trans man for 3 years and work in the Boys Town area of Chicago for a long time. I've seen quite a few trans people in my life and I just saw one pass by the restaurant window I'm sitting in at the moment. I think slowly our presence is becoming noticeable . Do you regularly , that you know of, encounter trans as you live your daily life.

I answered as who I know or have communicated with, which is 2 i recall one at a major software company, worked with for a week or so, just can't recall her name, the other is a dear friend of mine who I have worked with and know outside of work for many years... Over 10 at least!
She's one of my network of support people.

Seen many, many more around my travels....

sorry, I'm getting addicted to graphing data about our transgender community. so far we seem to follow quite normal patterns . We're about 80% classic Bell Curve an 20.% inverse Bell Curve. I don't know if that means anything though

Apart from a number of Sydney girls (7 or 9) who use this forum and who I've met face to face....

I've known a trans guy for about 12 years, he was pre transition when I met him, started transition about six years ago now I think.

I worked with a trans woman who was pre transition and wasn't out - I only found out about her a few years after she moved to another job and transitioned there. Haven't kept in touch though.

I know about three more women socially, two who I see regularly.

And of course there's a number (male and female) I've encountered in the endo's office and at the gender centre or walking down the street. Sometimes it feels like I can't three steps without tripping over a trans person!! ;)

I know three trans women personally outside of people I met on Susan's. Of those three two I met on an Internet forum. The other I met in my ham radio club. I also have seen Jowelle DeSouza in person in Trinidad. So that makes 2 outside of the net and four outside of Susan's. I'm sure I've encountered more without realizing it. I met one hobby/fetish cross dresser who identifies male but likes women's clothes but I'm assuming you're not counting those.

Edit: okay I did not count my electrologist, laser tech, one of her clients I chatted with and my nurse practitioner.

So that's 8 outside of Susan's and 6 outside of the net. Wow!

The first Trans person I met was ME, other than that outside of the local support group none to my knowledge in day to day life work or social.

I'd say over 25 for sure.  I've even had 8 of them over for dinner.

They were delicious.

I've met about seven Susanites, and TDOR Boston is attended by hundreds of transgender people.

I've met three.
the first was a casual friend, who came out rather suddenly. I remember being in awe since I always wanted such for myself. The second was actually someone I met through a friend who was also just beginning HRT. The third was a contact with a gal who was well-advanced but still pre-op.
Through my therapist, I may be meeting a fourth (if she is willing) since she works for the same organization that I do, and I have concerns about policy vs. work environment. I really don't want to be a disruption. But as my therapist helped me sort out, its no more disruptive than I was when arrived there on my first day of work :)

I ran into one transchick when I was grocery shopping. She was a pretty big girl. But, you see that a lot in farm country. So, I didn't think anything of it. (No, I don't mean big as in "fat"..like myself :D). We both reached for something in the same freezer. I said, "Oh, I'm sorry. Go ahead." She replied, "You're fine" in what was clearly a male voice. I didn't react to it. I just said, "Okay" and got what I needed. I felt bad for her because I know people around here can be real jerks. I went through it when my voice wasn't the best. But, she did have a couple of guys that were there with her. So, it was good that she had some friends.

I think I know like 30. I go to lots of groups and trans events. Lansing is like the center of my state so we have lots of activists meetings that draw people from around the state. Most my facebook friends are trans people. But I only have like 60 friends on there.

Just day to day normal life I have known or noticed more than a few trans folk over the years. One such woman was a co worker and is still around part of my social circle. She has been very sweet to me over the years though we were never close. I'm pretty sure she knew about me, or guessed to be more accurate. She certainly hit on me once. I would be closer with her now but she is a bartender and spends her free time in that world too. I'm 3.5 years without a drink and being around booze is difficult for me. Or perhaps I am just making excuses. Anyway, the greater Boston area is a diverse place. A good place to transition.

well, to clarify I only know one other trans person on a level of friendship. All the other trans people are people I recognize as trans or have had minor communication with on a street corner. I really need to be more in contact with other transgender . I guess that's mainly what I use Susan's for is to get to know about other transgender.

I think tequila is a better choice with fava beans

A crap load over the years. Met some that I was friends with online initially. Some I knew from a  bar when I lived in Charlotte back in the early 90's.  Also been to a few group meetings in my own state. A big party thing held by a friend in DC, been to First Event years ago along with Spring Fling that same year. I can't give the exact amount since I don't have enough fingers and toes to count them all...

I am with 60 every month and have met a few from here ( Eva, Aleana and a few others). At special events that can go as high as 300 or so. :)
