Genetic Female who had wanted FFS all her life

I'm a genetic woman. Ever since I was a teen, I've felt like a female with a masculine face though. I've always had a very feminine figure (tall, thin, but athletic) which has been a blessing and curse (consider it a curse when you're face is average at best). As a result, I've been in interested in FFS since the late 90's. I knew about FFS well before it became a known acronym in society. ;) Years ago I shared my desire to feminize my face with my parents. I was told that I looked fine and had issues. In my early twenties, I let my lack of confidence in my looks hinder my ambition in life. Fast forward to 2015: I'm a successful business woman at a corporation. I'd describe myself as tall, thin, blonde, and, at times, hot. I've got some nice facial features (big eyes, big lips). I think my nose is cute for my face but its big...which is fine considering I've got a big head. Anyways, I've decided I want to go through with FFS but I'm overwhelmed what needs to be done to make my face look feminine. Noted: I have a big forehead which is round with a receding hairline. I like my forehead but know it might be competing for power with the eyes it sits above. My face has a square jaw and long chin...I've hated looking at my face for years. Can anyone advise what I need done? I sincerely appreciate any guidance that can be offered. Btw: I'd like to post pics but am unaware how to do so.

Hi,

I went to DR Zukowski in Chicago.  You can check out my before and after pics in the male to female before and after thread.  He has done cis-women.  So have some of the other FFS doctors popular here on Susan's.

Get the names of the docs and interview them to see what they and you can work out.

Hugs

Jen
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

Welcome to Susan's. Pictures need to loaded to a place like Photo bucket and linked into your post with the insert image button.. As FFS is way after my time, I have a different view on things. I take the route of the least surgery that will get the job done. You might consider consulting with a Reconstructive plastic surgeon for a second opinion. Second and even third opinions may reduce the cost and recovery time but yet give you something you like as much. Let me know if I can help you.

Jen,

Appreciate the feedback...thanks! Btw: Where are your pics posted on Dr. Z's webpage? His before and after pictures are pretty impressive.

Katy-thanks for guidance on posting pics and other topics. I am going to see if I can get some pics up. ;)

Dena-thank you for help on posting pics and offering to assist :) I agree that I should seek second and third opinions. I made one of my friends aware of my intentions and she said I need to be mindful that I might not need full FFS. I just know I have a large heads with big features so it might be difficult to minimize the jaw/chin area yet still rock the big forehead.

Mariah-thanks for the warm welcome. I've wanted to post on this site for some time but have always been shy:)

Below are some pics of my face with minimal makeup and my fave at different angles:

Not knowing all that much about FFS and what the lower limit for that description to apply, I will give you what I see. I see a pretty face with a few features that could use adjustment. The forehead and the jaw line are the two features that override the rest of the face. It's a little hard to say much more because cell phones or close up lens use short focal length lens that fishbowl the image. I am not sure just how much camera distortion I am seeing. To see what I am seeing, cover the jaw up to the bottom of the nose and the whole picture changes. The jaw surgery is brutal but I have a neighbor who would like to have it but has been delayed by cancer. Good luck on your quest and come back anytime.

Dena,

Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it  :D

I covered my face for the nose down and noticed the view of the face did change. When I was a teenager, I was supposed to have braces and headgear. I refused and ended up getting braces in very late teens. It was recommended at that time that I get jaw surgery in additon to braces. Instead I had a few teeth removed and had braces to correct my bite. If only I would have just agreed then! Thanks again for the advice.

Hi,

My pictures on there....https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,168444.msg1475516.html#msg1475516

Now, I'm not on Dr Z's site.  He's not happy with me. I won't send him a current picture. I look way better now than I did in my pictures here on Susan's - they were only two months after FFS.  I was under from 6:00 AM until 11:30 PM.  I'm probably his best work.  I don't want to end up on a poster for FFS and that is where he wants to put me.

As for you, lower the hair line - sounds strange but that would help.  Work on the jaw, that would help as well. Those are the two biggies.  If you have a lot of money, shrink the lips a little and think about cheek implants.  My surgery, which had even more than that, would have cost $40K.  You would be looking at $30K +/-

Having said all of that, if you were to do all of what I said, you risk not seeing yourself in the mirror anymore.  That can be disturbing. I have no clue how Dr Z did it but I look like my my sister (and he never saw a picture of her).

Hugs,

Jen

Jen,

Wow....you look great after FFS with Dr. Z. What did you have done?

Did you have any complications after any of your surgeries? I definitely want to work on my jaw. I'm in the process of seeing if I can get approved by my health insurance company for jaw surgery. I'll know more on 7/3. Long story short, my deep overbite returned (my top teeth completely hide my bottom teeth) so my orthodontist recommonded braces (again) and jaw surgery. He referred me to an in-network doctor and suggested I have my lower jaw moved forward. I thought he would suggest moving my lower jaw back due to overbite? I'm really no expert though. I love my big lips but the top lip has gotten much more poutier as result of the overbite returning.

I'm open to getting my hairline moved forward but figure if I do that then I might as well consider forehead surgery too. ;) It's scary to think that I might regret something though.

I had my adams apple shaved, a nose job and my bottom done and each case I made sure I would be happy with the results before I went forward. With the nose, I told the doctor that I wanted it to match my face or in other words, it's ok to leave it on the big size. After months of waiting for the swelling to go down, I really liked it.
Another test is take a picture and draw in some hair to see what it will look like. I wear bangs or hair to cover up my forehead as it reduces the length of my face. In your case the hair line doesn't need to move much but reducing the forehead a small amount will help.

Hi Dena,

What did you have done to your nose? Based on your avatar, it looks very nice  and natural. I'm a huge fan of wearing a side part. :) Im sorry. What do you mean by bottom?

  •

Dena

My nose had a indentation where glasses would sit as the result of childhood stupidity and was smooth from top to bottom on the sides. The doctor went under the skin (while I was awake) and filed the front side so it was a smooth from top to bottom. He also took a little off the side so the bottom of the nose flairs out a bit. Next he cleared out my passages so I could breath better. For the for the finishing act he took a hammer and chisel and broke the bottom of the nose and tilted it up a little giving a turned up nose. All of these changes were small and didn't really change the nose all that much but I went from I am fine with my nose to I really like it.
As for the meaning of bottom on this form, it means I had MTF reassignment surgery in 1982. Everybody on the inside understands this slang but you being very new to this, I didn't think to translate for you. In one way the realignment surgery is nothing more than plastic surgery taken to an extreme but my reassignment surgery had me out for about 2 1/2 hours so it's not as simple as the popular stories suggest. For FTM the word top is common and that means mastectomy.
You can see from my picture that I had the perm pulled forward. I am going back to my straight hair with bangs but I pull the bangs off to one side in such a way that only a small part of my forehead show but yet I add that horizontal line to by face that reduces the length and rounds out my face. I have  a male forehead but with the proper cut I can cover it. FFS was something that wasn't available 35 years ago and I don't really want it now as the correct cut solves my facial issues.
Don't feel sorry for asking questions, I wouldn't put myself front and center if I didn't feel like answering them.

PS I went back to look at your nose and it's very much like mine. I would leave it alone as it looks pretty good.

Hi Dena,

Thanks again for providing answers to all of my questions and providing feedback on sland used in these forums.

I can see why you would be happy with your nose job. :) But geez...it doesn't sounds like any surgery is a cake walk you like you would think it would be!

Sincerely,

Kim

When looking at surgery there is alway a recovery period and it can range from several months to a year to take it's final form. Some of the last changes may only be noticed by you. In my case, the nose job took near a year for the last of the swelling to go down.

mmmmm

Looking at photos, I think you look very pretty. Your features are on a little stronger side, but this also ads to overall attractiveness of your face. I understand why you would want to make some things more softer. With years, softness of soft tissue slowly goes away, and underlying structure becomes more and more apparent. "Feminizing" some features, although I'm not shure this is the appropriate word, would indeed be very welcome difference, even more than now, 10, 20 and more years later. What exactly to change or how much isn't something I feel comfortable saying. I'm certanly not a facial surgeon, and although I see points where you could benefit, like chin, softening of orbital&lower forehead area (orbital reduction), hairline advance, maybe rhinoplasty, I think you should discuss this with facial surgeons. Not neccessarily with average "plastic-aesthetic-reconstructive" surgeons, but rather with specialized cranio-maxillo-facial surgeons, and rhinoplasty specialist for your nose.

Mmmm,

Thanks so much for the nice constructive feedback. I didn't think about the fact that soft tissue is only going to disappear as I get older. :o Lol. Anyways I agree about the orbitals, hairline, and chin and will look into seeing a specialist in those fields.
