I don't know if anyone remembers me buying my freetom and saying I was gonna DIY it and make it so it can be used to pee and then see if I can paint it myself and make it pretty. Well the answer to the question no one asked - yes you can paint silicone prosthetics and it will stay reasonably well.

I'm literally about to sell it but then I realised I never actually tried 'painting' it yet to see if I can get it to stick to the silicone. Yeah you can paint it the way you would any other packer except to get it to not rub off so easily you need to use a very little amount of hairspray. I didn't let the hairspray or powder go near the area that would be directly against your genitals however just in case.

It will wash off with soap and rub off a little bit in your pants but surprisingly not by much. In fact all it did was dull it a little bit and its managed to stay pretty fixed so far.

The photos dont do it much justice but here they are

That looks really good, what type of paint did you use to colour your freetom? I have a 2n1ecprosthetics that I would like to try and make more life like.

I used a combination of makeup, pastels and watercolour paint. No actual paint used as I don't have any silicone based paint on me. Its only a temporary 'paint' job and should last about a week or two with average wear.

Is there any way to seal it if you were to use silicone paint? Or even just a way to seal the job you did (which looks amazing by the way!!!) to make it more permanent?

You should hook up with nowhereboi, he has spent many, many hours figuring out the best way to paint packers that have lasting effects.  I know he has worked on cyberskin (M. Limpy), I am less sure about silicone packers, but I remember him talking about silicone paint.  He has done many different trials/approaches to getting this right.  Talking to him might save you some time from recreating the wheel and maybe you can bring him some ideas he doesn't have.

I think it is a good venture as it seems as though prothetic makers are expecting us to pay for coloring that they used to include in their work (that is my opinion at least).

hi guys, i just thought id throw this out there, last time i was on the EC prosthetic website i noticed they have a silicone repainting service for packers, which is cool because im guessing its permanent. ive heard its super hard to paint cured silicone and make it bond. Great coloring btw, that freetom looks sweet!! i wish iwas artistic lol

Thank you so much for this glowing endorsement :)

I tinker. Heh.  Def. interested in collaboration, always.

I have recolored some VixSkin silicone, but as the OP found, it only stays for so long.    I used makeup stay spray instead of hair spray, but I have a feeling it's really quite similar.  The only way to make it stick permanently is to add a coating of silicone and mattify it with setting powder.  The dudes from RM warned me though that the longer you wait to do this after curing, the less chance it has of not peeling off.

This *may* work; I'm not sure how well the staying power is on prosthetics that aren't newly cast, but at least it's silicone so you know it'll stick initially.  Also it's designed specifically for sealing prosthetics, so it should be the right thickness...adding paint thinner to caulking is another option, but as an amateur, I just made a huge peel-y mess.

Is there a huge difference between painting on silicone and painting on cyberskin? Like would it be beneficial to practice on a Mr limpy or is that a whole different ballpark?

(Thanks for the links btw)

I'd say practicing on silicone (i.e. painting without sealing it) would be easier than practicing on cyberskin because the color doesn't seep in; you can literally just wash it off if you don't like it.
