I think most of us would agree it's not brave to transition, it's perhaps necessary, though. Coming out, publicly, on the other hand, in this society, is. It is most certainly not "braver" to come out as gay. Either way you're putting yourself in harms way.

I don't know if Jenner is intending on staying hitched to her wife (or whatever the heck goes on in the Kardasian family, I never watch it) or if she's stated a sexual preference for women over men but if so then she is also coming out as lesbian. I wish people who didn't understand trans gender experience would STFU and listen instead.

This is actually a common thing among cis-hetero types...I tell them I'm transitioning my body from male to female, and was recently married..."Oh? What's his name?" 



They make the assumption that if I'm a woman, then I like men. In fact, I'm married to a woman, and that is my preference. "Wait...if you like women, why didn't you just stay a man?" 



I give them a few seconds, and either watch their mental gears grinding as they try to double-clutch into a new gear of understanding...and then if necessary I say, "I wasn't a man, I had a male body, and during that time I was a straight male. My preference did not change, only my body."

She has stated that she is only attracted to woman.

Bravery definition: brave spirit or conduct; courage; valor.  Courage: Courage is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation.

I can only speak for myself, and I don't consider myself to be brave, but for me transition takes courage.

I do agree that in this day and age, it is much more socially acceptable to be gay than transgender,  We are 30 years behind the gay community in that regard.

I've been called brave for transitioning. I've done some brave things in my life, but transitioning didn't feel like one. Actually, it felt more selfish than brave - I was putting my friends, family, and workplace through a lot of trouble and work in order make my own life better.

If anything, it would have been a supreme act of bravery not to transition and endure a bleak life as a male. That would have involved sacrifice for the sake of others.
