Chara

Hi,

Has anyone stayed at Jenny's nest?

It seems quite expensive @ €2280.

I have found a nice apartment for €735 but of course it does not come with the added care etc.

In short is going to Jenny's nest worth the extra?

Hi Chara

Jenny is lovey person, and very caring, so staying with her would definitely have its upside.

It depends what she includes in her service, as well as the things you're having done at FT.  Although FFS doesn't leave you incapacitated, it does leave you quite weak, so help is nice.

Also, if you have chin and jaw work done you'll not be up to eating much solid food for a few days.  Your accommodation should have some self-catering facilities, or at the very least a fridge for smoothies and purée soups etc.

Tha apartment I have found has Air Con, Kitchen, TV, Great views, supermarket next door etc.

But not the care that Jenny's would provide but Jenny's is €140 per day more and that seems a lot. I could almost pay for my hair transplants, at a later date, for that difference ;)

Honestly, then my recommendation is to save your money.  Transition is the most expensive thing I've ever done except for buying a house.

If your alternative accommodation has cooking facilities, really you're all set.  My only recommendation is to prepare some really soft food in advance so that all you need to do is reheat it during the first 2-4 days after you've left the hospital.  FFS will leave you weak, but not incapacitated - but you're not going to be exactly going after gourmet food.

I also opted to find my own apartment, almost next to to NH Hotel San Pedro which was listed on their accommodation sheet. However I do have my girlfriend coming with me, which made that decision very easy.

If you are close to a supermarket then just remember to stock up before surgery ready for your return a couple of days later and hopefully you can battle your way through the first few days :-)

That's the plan.

What sort of food have others found to be good to prepare?

Three weeks today, eeeek!

Let's see... let's assume you're doing jaw/chin and trachea.  The trachea shave isn't serious, but you might find it a little challenging to swallow stuff for a week or two, specifically hard or dry stuff.  I used to keep a glass of water at hand just in case, and I did need it a couple of times.

If you are having jaw and chin work, you won't be able to chew much or open your mouth much.  The best foods would be purées at first, then soups with soft ingredients.  Yogurts, mashed fruit are also good.  You will probably be able to eat very soft cereal after a few days.  Of course you could do the protein shake thing as well, but it's so dull.  :D

mmmmm

You will be given antibiotics... avoid milk and yogurt until a day after your last antibiotic pill.

If you have any chin/jaw procedure, you will have inside mouth stitches. Cream soups, baby pureed food, etc... everything blended, because you don't want anything with much fiber until you have stitches in mouth. It's neccessary to clean teeth after every meal, and mouth wash.. you don't want to have anything caught in your stitches.. It's already painful enough to clean teeth after smooth pureed food. Take a hand blender and/or regular blender with you...
