It's funny-- back in the 1980s it was actually fashionable for women to appear to have prominent shoulders. High fashion clothes almost always included shoulder pads. That time is past, but I don't think shoulder width is a very bothersome issue with femininity. I've seen a lot of shoulder women who look quite hot. And you can always de-emphasize you shoulders by wearing vertical lines and darker tones toward the top.

You are right about the fashion and every time I got something with pads in it the first thing I did was to take them out. I still nicely filled the garment out without pads. Mostly the style was favored by women with very weak shoulders and my hair dresser upon learning about my pad removal ask me to save the pads for her.
