Rumbled by family members? What happened?

I remember mom told me she had found skirts in my bedroom.

I denied they were mine, although clearly she knew this was untrue.

She then promised to tell nobody and asked if I needed to discuss dressing or need clothing advice.

No more was said and I now regret not confessing!

My daughter was off school sick. She was sleeping upstairs. I'd forgotten she was there and was going about my day. She walked in on me looking for something. She never skipped a beat. Had to tell her sister after that. Life has been much better since. They treat me exactly the same as they did before no matter how I'm dressed.

Seems like your mom has given you an opening to talk with her?  If she is sincere you may have one of the best allies any of us could hope for.  Forget the regrets, you still have the option of saying yes to yourself and sharing with someone who cares.  I denied myself and lived with shame for decades and cannot recommend that to anyone else.  Take her up on that offer maybe?

LD5, take the opportunity to come clean.  I was confronted after mom found some clothing or of place.  I denied and continued to hide things.   Years later I told my mom and she was pretty accepting.   Turns out she works have helped me out, but that's not how I roll the talk when I was a teenager.

Had to tell my wife after she found some of my stuff. I came clean leaving no stone unturned. Now she supports me 100%.

you have a wonderful opportunity. Ask to talk to you Mom in private and ask her for help. In the conversation come clean. It sounds like she will support you. Go slow, perhaps ask for dressing advise and go from there.

Sounds like something I regret to. I was hated at junior high school. Christine Jorgensen was brutalised(keypad stuck) by the press. My Mom found out that my cousins favorite blouse was in my bedroom closet. She told me that if I had been born a girl that she would have named me,Penelope. There hasn't been a day that passed that I wished that I would have told her that every nite I would pray to wake up a girl with no memory of ever had been born a boy.
Just do it again by having clothes in your bedroom,let her find them, then have a discussion with your Mom. Your still young yet.
She seems to understand.

My life has escalated and now it's too late to be who I truly want to be. Early in any disclosure is the easiest time to move on, you have a choice, all be it the most difficult time you will face but if you can get through this the rest of your life will be at peace. Peace still has its mountains.
Let your Mum know she was right and let her help, I hope you find your way.

Sue - yes hon its very tough to make those changes later in life and I'm sure most of us regret not stepping up at some point sooner.  But don't beat yourself up... you more than likely did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time.

I know I spent up to my late 20's in denial... but something clicked and I sorted it all out and found a peace I never thought I would.  That peace enabled me to find the love of my life to supports me as I am.  Hopefully you can or have found that someone too.
